| in fruity there is an fx plugin called blood overdrive that distorts, you could use that on a synth, also you could make a similar sound on vstation to tiestos mix of adagio but i think he used hardware. |

| if youre using vanguard, try some heavy LFO on the pulse width modulation, gives more sharpness without sounding like generic distortion... I love it. |

This kind of distortion can be achieved with some ultra fast LFO action on the cutoff I think... that means you make your cutoff rapidly go up and down in a very small interval. You could try the same with detuning or pulse width modulation.
Another possibility is generic Distortion which you have on many synths (including vanguard), its especially applied on 303-type synths.
If youre working in FL Studio, Blood Overdrive could work, but I would prefer the Fruity Waveshaper (included in FL Studio 5) - works very nicely.
You could also try adding a noisy waveform providing the distorted sound working together with a 'clean' waveform. In ReFX Vanguard, I found the Waveform "Synced Noise" to be perfect for distorted guitar-like leads: It carries the tone but also some distortion with it. There are others that work quite nicely as well and with some PWM it sounds even sharper. |

| Kinda off-topic, I consider Tiesto's version of Adagio for Strings to be weak and gutless. Ferry Corsten's version is my favorite. :) |

Hey djAlexg, now that I hear those samples...the stock presets of Vanguard include pretty much that exact same sound you're looking for.
EDIT: Here...I reduced the delay and reverb a little but didn't add more distortion for the "elecric" sound and increased decay and sustain to make it sound "longer"...anyway, you get the idea. Sounds kinda close.
