Ashtrax is now signed to Global Underground and they are releasing their debut album this year.
| quote: | Ashtrax sign to Global Underground Ashtrax are the fantastic new signing to Global Underground label GU[MUSIC] A label set on expanding their roster of future thinking, creative artists that already includes UNKLE and Trafik, Ashtrax are the next important electronic band to get the GU genius stamp of approval. Ashtrax are Ashley Casselle, James Christopher and Ben Lost.
The Bad Red EP is the first release from the forthcoming debut album, which is due in the autumn this year. The silky grooves and stabby riffs of ‘Freeload’ is backed by the guitar embossed epic ‘Something to Get Through’ and the lush, breakbeat fuelled ‘Play It Rosa’. These three records perfectly show the deep contrasts of Ashtrax talents. On ‘Something To Get Through’ you will hear the precocious talent that is Ben Lost. The certitude of Ben’s delivery, at times nihilistic, often stark and fragile, helps to create an engaging atmosphere for the listener. Sounding a little like The Buzzcock’s Pete Shelley and Japan’s David Sylvian, his vocals coupled with Casselle and Christopher’s alternative chord progressions and boundless detailed production makes for a true journeyed recording. Sounding every bit as rich and diverse as you would expect from a band citing influences including Adam & The Ants, The Smiths, Andrew Weatherall, Harold Budd, Depeche Mode and Joy Division, Ashtrax is the complete fusion of indie guitar riffs, lush dubbed-out electronic and chunky breaks-meet-tech house rhythms.
Ashley and James first met back in the mid-nineties while recording for Confusion Records. They then collaborated on seminal releases ‘Helsinki’, Kafka’ and ‘Digital Reason’ for Deviant Records. It was the latter that first featured Ben and a unique trio was formed.
