| Skilled trade workers will always be in demand. But as vivid said, prob not to such a degree as today. THe ad campaigns will take their toll in saturating the field, just as they have done with computer , and TRUST me on this, they have in that field, way too much. The best thing to do is to get into a field that has a constant rate of demand, just as food. But personally, I don't know if I could commit myself to physical labor for the rest of my life. And the one thing I found when talking to people in the skilled trade field (those of you in it, if I'm wrong, please correct me). All said that they pay was good, but you tend to reach a peak pay fairly quickly relative to other jobs, and then just plateau out, leaving very little room to rise. |

| I work for Ryerson's accounting department and do a lot of the payables. And buddy, if you want to make serious cash, industrial welding is the way to go. Last year during Canada Day weekend the university was looking for a welder to do a job on a new building that was being put up on campus, we were offering $1200 for 3 hours and no one wanted to take it. That kind of money wasn't enough for any industrial welder who thought that the day off was better. It absolutely shocked me. Also, HVAC technician, plumbers, industrial painters, people who can fix anything from dishwashers to ovens make very good money, anywhere from the $40-100/hr region. Electrical work pays very well too. My own cousin is part of a union and does their work during the weekdays for around $35-40/hr, and his private jobs he does sometimes on weekends pay $50-70/hr. |

That isn't a bad thing. Most people would also reach a plateau as well, but instead, they're given tiny increases year after year after year, never really reaching that plateau. Where as, if you can reach that plateau in 1 year, I'd say you're far better off than those who wait years to get to that level. |

Skilled Trade Jobs are in HIGH demand now and always will be... I work in recruitment advertising, so I see these jobs posted day in and day out.
I'm working on a section called Ontario @ Work. It's publishing on the 20th of April. Some very handy info if you're looking for skilled trades work. |

You guys are SOO right about the shortage of various skilled trades these days & its gonna get worse:nervous: ...I've been a licensed Automotive Tech for years now.Several years ago the Ministry of Trades split that into 2 gatagories>>> "S" license for Auto & "T" license for Truck & Coach<<<....I have both and I have NEVER been out of work & now work at the TTC fixing buses:D...Right now it seems like they are hiring some apprentices for various fields...Let me tell ya that if you can in the TTC, you are set FOR LIFE:haha:

exactly and now theyre pushing construction construction construction . but honestly. how long do u think construction is gonna be booming for? right now its an awesome business to be in. but for ghow long is it gonna be like this?
u want to make in money. get in the food business. get into agriculture. cause theres gonna be a huge demand for that coming. |
they are pushing it, but not a lot. im still in high school that has a shop class. ive actually taken constuction technology for 4 years now and plenty of other tech courses. from what i can see by class size, in grades 9 and 10, the most ppl are in there. then the sizes diwindle down to about 12 ppl in grades 11 and 12. sometimes they put grade 11 and 12 together because they dont have enough ppl and but they dont want to cancel the course. im taking it becuase i want to study architecture and if that doesnt go well, i can have a head start in woodworking and construction. |
