High quality remix. Wouldn't change a thing. |
I would... that bassline is boring (just a simple change like putting one of the notes down an octave... would make this track 100x better)... spice it up a bit... other than that, not bad at all.... different take on the track... like how you rhythmgated the synth during the lead part... kinda had that Probspot feel.... speaking of which a Probspot mix of this track would totally kick ass. |

*EDIT* I see you have deleted your smart-alec replies so others won't see them, making me look like a complete jerk and a moron too for talking to myself, but I'm still keeping my replies since it still pertains to the review and the track's improvement. For the other TAs reading, ignore the sarcastic, argumentive comments and regard this as another review.
trust me i know what i'm talking about... change the bassline it will work wonders for your remix.... this duh-duh duh-duh bassline you have now is dull and played out... you'll get more DJ support if you change the bass to something more modern. This reminds me of another case with a track posted here on TA... all it needed was the bassline changed and now it's a stormer of a track... it was a remix of a different MIKE track to be exact.
This has nothing to do with sound engineering... It has to do with the feel. And there isn't a good feel with that bassline.
As for "it sounds perfect in a club" that's a very subjective comment there.. I suggest you get the opinion of others who were at that club (and know how tracks should sound in a club) [that means asking the club sound engineer or a DJ who's listening but not playing a set that hour, not the annoying raving poptart trying to sneak into the VIP]. Artists/producers in general have subjective ears for their music. I might hear my track in a club and love the way it sounds (cuz I did it duh), but to people who know how should sound in a club, they're gonna be like "dude i think you should fix that" Most likely, they're right because they didn't make the track and are listening with an impartial ear.
Also take notice that with every track (if this is a major club), there's a sound engineer making sure every track is normalized and the EQ is similar in every track the DJ plays. So the engineer's EQ might have made your song sound extremely badass, as if you were to hear it in a car, it might sound crappy. (This is just an example... haven't heard your tune in the car so i don't know lol), but yeah be aware of this! |

if you wanna be an ass about EQ... i took time to test the track out on different systems against different tracks of the same genre/style...
your track failed...
it sounds horribly weak (like sega mega drive music compared to live music).. first off the kick has no thump... try layering 2 kicks together... a highendy kick that's punchy (highpass filtered) with a deep bassy kick you already have but lowpass filter it accordingly (the kick you have now is too deep by itself and drowns out when other elements in the mix are brought in... if you wanna keep that bassline you can, but at least try to make it sound better... boost some uppper 2khz range mids for some punch in the mix and boost 70-80hz range.. so it thumps through the mix. Also try different kinds of distortions on the bassline... it sounds too nintendo 1980s... like if you had made that bassline in a NES generator or something.
Also try putting exciters on different elements in the track... a lot of stuff like the leads sound dull compared to the leads of those in other tracks in this genre.
The structure is also lacking. For a remix of an old track, you should at least incorperate sounds and ideas from today's trance music. Everything in your remix has been done in 1994-1997, making your remix sound older than the original Push track.
Sorry if this review was a bit harsh, but I just can't let a good remix with potential stay sounding the way it is. At least try all my advice, you might like it, and you'll thank me when your remix gets signed.

I really like the powerful lead in this one! Gives the track an extra 'push' :)
Though I do think it could do with some extra elements, especially during intro and outro. Those parts feel a bit empty, perhaps even irrelevant to the track as a whole... |
