in persia a few millenias ago was a king.
this king decided to have a big feast. once drunk this king told his minister haman to bring his wife to his palace to show off her beauty of else they would kill her. the queen vashti ofcourse refused and was killed. then the king, assuerus (achashverosh in hebrew) decided to hold a beauty pageant were he would choose his next wife. a poor familly in persia decided to send there daughter esther wich was very beautiful to the pageant. yes esther won the beauty pageant and was chosen queen. but she was hiding her jewish identity. meanwhile haman was gaining power in the kingdom and decided he wanted to kill all the jews in the kingdom of persia (which at that time was the whole world) and to rebel against the king to take his place...
haman decided to poison the kings food. but, esther's brother, mordecai wich was watching over esther, herd that the minister wanted to kill the king and he warned the guards. they fed the food to dogs and the dogs died. then haman had a draw (wich is pour in hebrew, from the plural pourim) for the date in wich to kill the jews of persia.
meanwhile the king couldnt fall asleep one night and he asked one of his servants to tell him a story about a brave person. the servant told him the story of mordecai the brave jew who saved his ass from death from food poisoning. the king honored mordecai...
the jews of persia decided to fast in order to get the queen esther's attention of the horrific act that was goin to take place. the king heard about it and found out it was true.. he told himself that a jew had saved him from death so he had to save all the jews from hamans horriffic killings.
the king decided to hang haman and to honour mordecai the jew by making him a high placed minister.
so today jews of the world fasted in memory of the fast that the jews of persia had and we all partied hard tonite in order to comemorate this event.
in fact the tradition/law says that tonite you have to get drunk till u cant tell the differencce between mordecai and haman.... i know i fukin cant becaus im soooooo wasted right now :) lolol

Happy Pourim.
I'm for sure not drinking. Gave up drinking, over two months ago now I think. |
