Diamond earrings.

I'm going to buy my girlfriend a pair of diamond earrings for her birthday. Nothing uber-spectacular, but nothing cheap, either. I'm not looking to spend more than $200, but also not looking to spend less than $120... because that seems to be the bare minimum for good quality earrings.

For those of you who know the difference between and cornflakes when it comes to such a thing as diamond earrings... what kind should I be looking for? Is there something particular?

I'm especially hoping some female TA's will respond to this.

UPDATE: These are the ones I have my eye on at the moment, for reference purposes. (And yes... it's a reputable local company that I have dealt with in the past.)

Do not invest in diamonds.

Laboratories are getting SO good at synthesizing very nice-sized diamonds anymore, cubic zirconia and the overpriced natural diamonds are just going to become a thing of the past very soon.

Buy her $100 worth of chocolate and $100 worth of gym membership instead of paying $200 for diamonds. :happy2:

Personally i'm not a fan of buying Stud earings because you have to look really closely and know abit about diamonds to be able to tell the difference between $200 earings and some $20 tacky ones.
What is the occasion? and how long have you been with your gf? Makes a big difference on present finding.

Personally i'd rather not just give expensive presents (have done before, spent £200 on a ring, bout $350 i think) because i dont like the thought of them being forgotten. I'd rather spend the cash on something like a day out or something she has not done before like a flying lesson or something she'll remember for the rest of her life.

A day at the spa would be nice.

Yeah guy, gifts, when you buy her stuff you only show your blandness. And there's just so much cool you can do for her instead that she can go and later brag to her girlfriends about.

Flying lessons (like the guy said)
Skidiving
Bungee jumping
Horse Riding
Go-karting

and these are just off the top of my head

Just pick, mix and match for your budjet, plan it out in advance, and shell love it. Hell, a day of awesomeness from you does not even compare to a lame gift like earrings.

Thanks for the ideas, guys, but I'm not new to that sort of thing. I am buying the earrings for a very specific purpose as part of a much bigger plan for her birthday. No earrings means that the rest of the plan doesn't turn out exactly as it is intended. Hence why I am not spending more than $200 on them.

So... does ANYONE know anything about diamond earrings? I'm thinking that 1/4 carat is the best I can do for the price range.

Well, I was compentsating for the $100 worth of chocolate. ;)

Gotta be tactical about these sorts of things.

i received diamond earrings once from my first b/f and i believe they were 1/4 carat and they were nice. i am not a jewlery (spelling?) person but i remember that i lvoed them.

white gold is nice but if you could find ones set in platinum that would be ace....

does she wear earrings? and if so how many times is her ear pierced? b/c diamond earrings go nice with other earrings too.

i think you are going the right route and i think it is a nice gift. i dont know much about diamonds, but i have seen those cliche commercials for a diamond is forever, so i am sure they have some websiite or something. good luck.
