From BBC Radio 1: How to Throw a Horrible Party (pg. 2)

Radio 1 as you all know throw loads of parties all around the world year after year after year.
this to me sounds more like (as dave said) the fault of the nikki beach club organisers and general bad attitudes of the local authorities, it seems to me America in general is very prehistoric in the way they treat clubbers (like banning glowsticks in some states because (thier reason) they are drug related  )
If radio 1 throw a free party, it's free, it would be those 3 bouncers who took it upon themselves to charge ppl to get in.
With any luck charges will be laid upon those three for obtaining money illegally.
If the WMC was held in the UK, it would be embraced, we are used to throwing huge events like global gathering, creamfields, homelands etc and the only party that was cancelled was Love parade UK in newcastle a couple of years ago and Radio 1 who organised that made alternative plans and still laid on an excellent party at incredibly short notice.
I'm sorry to hear about the bad time many of you experienced :(

in defense of radio 1, i think many of the problems with the nikki beach party were more the fault of the nikki beach club and the vendetta the miami police seem to have taken on this year to fight "noise" in one of the dirtiest, most crime ridden big cities in the usa.
it doesnt take a genius to figure out that with all the parties that were shut or in the case of nikki beach, told to lower the music to the point of a whisper, that miami do not want the winter music conference in their city anymore.
it's too bad, because i'm sure las vegas would love to take on this type of event, first because it's a popular convention spot to begin with and the clubs and bars run 24 hours.
personally for me, i thought radio 1 did a fantastic job creating a lineup that represented a wide variety of dance music that people want to hear.

the venues here in vegas aren't really built for this type of an event. the regular clubs don't fit too many people and are already packed with tourist.
closest thing that could hold a lot o people would be the thomas n mack center/cox pavillion, or the arena at the orleans....which could be cool i guess.
wait what am I saying, Id love to have it here :wtf:
plus, when are you coming around here, ive been asking ice to book you guys but nothing has come of it yet since I am a nobody here :clown: |

it truly was the entire fault of nikki beach mgmt this year without a doubt. i was there on tuesday for amsterdam meets miami and the ing s wanna charge $20 per person to sit or lay on the beds they have outside! ing ridicilous on their part and the majority of people that actually paid that nonsense price.
something must have totally changed in mgmt cuz last year was sooooo much better and easier to get in, no bribing of the sorts whatsoever, all u did was show the guy ur ID and if ur not 21 then good bye.
i was in there for only about 20 mins and i got really upset over a stupid reason ! hahaha! i wanted a free bacardi visor hat they were giving away and i was 3 mins 2 late of getting one so i was pissed the whole 20 mins i was inside.
i dont know of other places where wmc could happen but 1 of the major problems is the mayor and the city of miami beach.. i dont understand why they have to be such s about the music. they know its coming, it comes every year. even at the leslie hotel party where dave was playing they made him lower the music. fyi dave, jody played like 15 mins and called it quits. whoever runs wmc should speak with the city of miami beach and have a meeting on what the rules and regulations will be for that one week.
its not like its memorial day weekend. and people who live in miami knows all about that weekend. |

I'm actually kinda glad to hear I'm not the only one who bribed a bouncer to get into the tiest event of the WMC. Misery loves company and all that ;)
I left after twenty minutes of not being able to hear G&D. My old high school gym had better sound than that party. I hope Miami gets it's together before WMC moves, this is the best time of the year for the city. |

| Besides the overcrowdiness South Beach experienced that day, the line to the event was rediculous... and yeah, there were like a couple of black security guys in the back making deals for the under 21 to get in... or anyone else.. ppl jumping bushes, crawling under fences.. police coming @ 7 to shut down, mmm... I was about to pay the 20 but it was not worth it to listen to whispering music |

my thoughts about all this are:
1. WHY DID THEY PUT A FENCE AROUND NIKKI BEACH??????
-- i went late thinkin i was going to enter thru the beach, and boom cops are there telling people to move away from the beach (which is public property! WTF!!!) I JUMPED THE FENCE!!
2. SOUND WAS THE WORST EVER.
-- music stoped every 15 minutes. that sucked. There was a shortage of speakers and sound system.
3. BEER WAS NOT SERVED COLD.

on the positive side, the girls were amazing! :D :D |

dude so true. memorial weekend is filled with the crappiest of crap people! that whole weekend you hear nothing but fights and killings going on in the beach which is NOWHERE NEAR as bad as WMC. Downtown Miami isn't so bad. There isn't enough clubs in downtown but in time alot more will pop up.
Wednesday for example, Space was STUFFED inside and out and when you go to the clubs next door they were empty.
Also with more and more people coming out each and every year its hard for the city to be kept sorta under control. I guess that's why they were being all pissy with the noise situation on Friday because the beach was probably the most packed I had ever seen it. I know me and some other TA's parked 16 streets away and took a taxi to first! |

Saturday's pollside event at the WMCs Host Hotel (The Wyndham) was also shut down an hour after it started... and this was an official event, produced by the organizers!
Time for Vegas! |

I know the BBC are used to throwing awesome parties. My comment was more about the fact they booked some talent and tried to let the event run itself.
You can only blame the venue so much. Good event producers are very hands on, making sure that the kinds of things that happened at their part, dont happen. |

| I had a good time at the BBC Radio 1 Party at Nikki Beach, you just had to go early. We made it there by around noon, only had to wait in line maybe ten minutes, and stayed until around 4:30. The only bad part was that it was hot as . We saw the entire Radio 1 broadcast, and left when it was over to go take a nap at the hotel before going out that night. We did see the crazy line outside when we left, but the people at the door at that point said they weren't going to let anyone else in. I think everyone outside should have just gone home, they got there too late. It was really crowded inside towards at about the point we left, I don't see why anyone would actually PAY to be let into a place so crowded! So for next year.... go early, leave early. BTW the sound was great early in the show. |
