When compared to the modern day cast?
Yes.
When compared to the casts that existed in the late 80's all the way up till the mid 90's?
No way. |

As far as number of funny skits in a show, MadTV trumps all of them.
They have some real guts with some of their skits. |
whaaaaaaaaat, comparing Mad TV with the Chapelle Show is like comparing the Power Rangers to Mike Tyson. I mean c'mon Nou, I thought Mad TV was funny when I was 12.

lol, Mad TV has better writing...ok, if you find the topics and humor that even SNL wont touch with a ten foot pole hilarious...
Chappelle's Show certainly contains swearing, but anything truly explicit is edited on TV, and his humor isnt swearing related - tho his conveyance perhaps may be. usually it has more to do with turning racial relations or bizarre experiences or ideas on their heads for a different angle.
and yeah, im rick james bitch is irritating. but if thats what you think his humor is based entirely on - then keep watching MadTV and hating anything trendy.
MadTV is not better because its not popular

I'd have to agree with the majority in this thread, SNL was the best of the three in late 80s and early 90s, now every other skit on that show is a white celebrity talking black or some other "genious" idea that they've done to death.
And Mad TV, never liked it, out of the three shows this one is the worst by far. Some of the characters on Mad TV are better than those on SNL, but everything on this show is the type of humour that would appeal to 13 year old kids.
Yea Chappelle uses alot of swear words, but who gives a really, what are we twelve years old? Sometimes swear words are the best way to get your point across, whether it be serious stuff or comedic stuff. Alot of the stuff on Chappelle's show sucks too though, I agree with the person who says at best we could expect one (or maybe two if we're lucky) funny scripts -- and the musical guests he has are annoying. I don't mean because its rap either, I like rap, its just that they always seem to be amateur performances that are more irritating than enjoyable.
but oh well. |

Muckluck doesn't give a !!
As for MAD TV and SNL, MAD sucked ass for the first seasons until Sasso, Spears, McDonald...MAD was gold from season 3 to season 6. SNL was funny late 80's to as soon as 1999, a season or two before Will Ferrell left. As for In Living Color, that was funny for its entire duration. Of course it only aired for three or four seasons. I'd say the best MAD TV, the best SNL, and the best In Living Color were equally funny for me. SNL was the only one I didn't actually watch in the early-mid 90's when it first aired. The Simpsons was at its best in the 90's as well...I suppose the 90's was kind of a comedic...revolution of a kind.
Today of course, MAD TV appeals to 13 year olds, but so does South Park.
Today SNL appeals to idiots, but so does South Park and The Simpsons.
You know, I really want to give MAD chances these days even if most of it no longer makes me laugh; it's early in its life if SNL is any gauge. I did see the recent episode with the spoof of "Extreme Makeover: Home Edition", and almost that entire episode made me laugh...suprisingly. |

South Park does NOT appeal to 13 year old pre-pubescents. They actually take modern day politics and world events and turn it into some seriously funny and stupid sh*t.
Also, the Simpsons doesn't appeal to idiots. It's just not as funny as it used to be since it's been on the air for so long and since it's run through all of its gags. |

lookee that! another thread that ends up having nothing to do with the original topic!!
hey, nou, you as well as my father are well to do enjoying MadTV. but why not start an 'i love mad tv' thread rather than saying Chappelle is complete crap from the *perhaps* three eps you watched.
guess what? if you started a MadTV thread saying how great it was...itd end up on a different topic, flaming.
if you dont care for Chappelle, put it in reasons other than:
'ANOTHER SHOW IS BETTER, THIS IS CRAP!' (from the one time you watched it)
yeah, catchphrases can be a bitch, but then again MadTV has never had much going for it in that territory.
the idea that a show can be based on one comedian is faulted as well. Dave Chappelle is not a singular figure in his show. Paul Mooney, among others, and Dave's personal writer (who is white), not to mention many others go into a show like this.
same goes for most comedy shows. MadTV and SNL have compilations of various character actors and comedians and writers that must change weekly to various trends within the general social trends that occur, at one time.
Chappelle's show is topical, but if you consider which show may or may not have any staying power...do you really think a skinny white guy that sorta looks like John Madden whom talks about cooking/eating chicken et al is gonna be hilarious in five years? What about Dave Chappelle and his team making fun of white supremacists by enlisting a blind black man raised by white supremacists?
my best guess...
swearing ignored, if you look towards content and the entire team making the show you can get a gist of what is really going on. disliking black humor/music/etc isnt gonna fly in general
