This year's talent was eH~! Nothing too special although one thing that stood out the most was the influence from south america. God damn there were sooo many Brazilian Chicks down there and honestly, lols, they got it going on the most...I can say those chicks got it like no other...
Oh yea back to the artist...
My weekend consisted of Macarena, Nikki Beach, PVD, Ultra, Carry On
Thursday Night @ MAcarena
Stopped to catch Second Sun only to hear The Spell. Caught that track and went up to see Darude at Local 16? Stayed there for alittle and turned in early
Nikki Beach has to be one of the best parties of WMC. It clearly deserves all the credit and hype - not to mention the best mojito i've ever had in a pitcher. The music, the girls, the drinks, the atmosphere, there clearly isn't anything better than laying out on a bed, drinking, looking at topless chicks, and hearing pete tong MC and the coined radio1 advertisement. Yes, it's great!
PVD, Ferry, Sander @ Space
Definitely way to crowded great sets from all DJs, left there pretty exhausted.
Ultra
Christopher Lawrence - dope set, got the energy up nice and early. Played right before Infusion and did a great job with some hard tracks at the end of his set
Infusion - I don't know what it is about the Miami scene, but people were just not feeling them. To me they played a dope set, maybe the setting isn't ideal for their type of music, but they did play a nice organized set.
Ferry Corsten - His set rocked like non-other. I think his set was at top of my list in terms of music selection. If anyone has a recording of this, can I please get it.
Walked over to Pete Tong
Pete Tong - Great as usual, alot of Nikki Beach tracks, gave me some time to walk over to catch the end of Josh Wink and the start of Carl Cox.
Josh Wink/Carl Cox
Josh ended his set fairly hard as I waited for Carl's set. When Carl came on, he literally destroyed it. He played so hard and his tent was so packed. I think he should have played at the main stage and have junkie and oakie tossed to the sound stage while pete tong and sander have their own tent like cox. I ended cox's set around 9 and walked over to catch tiesto and pvd since almost all my friends left me solo at cox for the last hour.

GOD DAMN IT WAS PACKED. Now the past years i've seen the amphitheater packed and this year..lols it was worse. It was so bad that I had to venture over to VIP and hang out there. I was up in VIP for the end of ultra. Although VIP kinda sucked since you don't get the real feel for the bass and the crowd, it was nice to sit from a distance and only imagine how many people surrounded the place. As for tiesto's set, eh it was ok, nothing too amazing and nothing too boring. decent yet again the same every year at ultra.
PVD
Not bad if you ask me, Nothing But You showed it's face and I agree that the ultra MC needs to be shot. They need to have an MC with a more european influence versus an america's MC that naturally tries to "hype the crowd" yea ok dude, you don't need to hype the crowd when pvd is smashing basslines on people.
Ultra Carry On - SnD, JZ, + Friends
I didn't even get into this . I'm definitely complaining to Wanttickets as American Airlines only had 2 ticket windows open and people were literally fighting to get to the ticket booth. I didn't even want to bother with the mass so I just went back to my hotel to prepare to leave early that morning.
Overall Experience
The Clay Hotel is the only hotel I will stay at in South Beach. It's affordable, location is key, and the accomodations were proper.
Ultra needs to change its main stage lineup a bit. They need to alter it because it's literally the same year after year.
Other Experiences
Coming out of PVD@Space I got to witness Miami Vice at it's finest. As we all know the JP Warehouse party was going on right next door. So I was walking out of PVD and I see about 25 Cops in the street, with the block closed off, and a huge white light spotted on the whole block. I see about 6 cops wrestling this 1 dude, who is like 6'3" 320lbs of muscle out of the JP party and up against the cop car. I keep walking, and I see security guards with flashlights scouring the ground picking up pills. Then all of a sudden, about 24 of the cops run down the street and tackle like 3 other big guys (about the same size) I'm talking like a pile of officers ontop of these 3 guys. And the 1 guy who was left to watch that other guy on the car had already drawn out his taser gun and had the red laser dot spotted on the guys back. Now I'm definitely watching some miami vice here. It was pretty ironic that the 3 guys got hauled back and one of them was wearing an LAPD shirt yet he was cuffed and held in a headlock at the same time. These guys were big, like REALLY BIG, bigger than the cops.
So I sat and watched them question the guys while they were picking up pills from the floor in every direction possible. I heard that the guys got bagged inside the JP party and the security guards couldn't handle them so they called in the cops and then the guys came running out and started throwing their stash everywhere. The whole incident I saw the cops draw about 5 tasers, 2 real guns, and I've seen 3 of the guys with atleast 2 taser dots on them. I thought I saw one of the muscle dudes with some red on his shirt like he was bleeding, too bad i didn't get to witness if he got taser'd or not, would of been cool! LOLS...I might have pics of this, but yea, it was a pretty eventful effort to leave PVD as I was compelled to watch the Miami Vice in action. I saw about 4 others shortly after get hauled out of the JP party in headlocks.
Also after Ultra, the causeway into Southbeach had been closed since a car accident had shut down the whole causeway. I believe numerous people were injured and that 3 people had died. This is hear-say so don't quote me on it.
Will I go back to Ultra? Probably not, I've had my share of events down there, I think it's time to retire my ultra days. Off to bigger and better! |
