Annoying importing midi issue in Cubase

No matter what midi file I import, it imports fine. However when I play the midi file connected to a synth, the midi file automatically changes the selected patch I've chosen in the synth. I change the patch to the patch I want, hit play, the damn midi switches the patch selection back to the same patch. Its like there is some info in the midi that overrides whatever patch I select. I can't seem to figure out how to turn this off. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.

that is so fcuking annoying.. i hate it.. i have no other sollution, no other than that if u copy the notes and paste them in an empty piano roll, i works, but still its a pain in the arse, anyone else?

Just figured it out. I have to say the help file included with Cubase is extremely helpful. I should have thought to just look there first. :tongue3 Here is what do do:

Go to File, Preferences, then under MIDI, click on Midi File. Towards the bottom under Import Options, by default, only Import to Left Locator should be checked. Put a checkmark in Extract First Patch, hit Apply at the bottom. Now import the midi file and it will no longer switch banks on you. That did the trick for me.

That will work, but more than likely there is a patch change controller in the MIDI file that is changing patches on you. Check your controller lane and erase any automation info there (or set it to the patch you want).

what he said. open the midi file, down by the velocity meters, change the tab to "program change" and delete whatever is there. after that, open the "reset ctrl" tab and you'll be all set.
