1985 .... Transmat ... Detroit Techno .... birth of techno.

Just curious as to how many TAs have been influenced by detroit techno to become electronic music fans later on. I've been personally addicted to detroit techno since I heard the first detroit techno track, "Sound Of Stereo" by Model 500. In fact, the three godfather of techno, as you might know were Juan Atkins, Derrick May and Kevin Saunderson.

In 1986, Transmat, the first techno music label was created. Under this label many glorious detroit techno classics were released and became instant legends, from Rhythim Is Rhythim (Derrick May), to Model 500 (Juan Atkins), to Aril Brikha, Carl Craig and Psyche ... other ifluential detroit names included Underground Resistance (Mad Mike), Inner City (tech-house), Suburban Knight, Eddie 'Flashin' Fowlkes, Anthnony 'Shake' Shakir, Bone helped shape techno out in detroit in early 1990s (and earlier).

My fav artist would have to be Juan Atkins from Detroit ;-)

personal favs that I can recall at the moment (top 3 from each major artist) ...

Model 500 - No Ufo's (D-Mix) [1985]
Model 500 - Sound Of Stereo
Model 500 - Time Space (Transmat) [1985]
Rhythim Is Rhythim - Kao-tic Harmony [1991] (Transmat)
Rhythim Is Rhythim - Drama
Rhythim Is Rhythim - It Is What It Is
Underground Resistance - Eye Of The Storm
Underground Resistance - The Theory
Underground Resistance - Electronic Warfare
Inner City - Big Fun
Inner City - Good Life
Inner City - Set Your Body Free

FAV from: Jeff Mills - Changes Of Life
Joey Beltram - Energy Flash
Aux 88 - Welcome To Avolon

----
Anyone has reflections of detroit techno?
Sand Leaper
Model 500 - I Wanna Be There
The Martian - Cosmic Movement/Stardancer
Aux 88 - I Need To Freak
X-101 - Sonic Destroyer
Aril Brikha - Groove La Chord
Underground Resistance - Elimination
Ron Trent - Altered States
Psyche - Neurotic Behavior
Carl Craig - Alien Talk

And the list goes on. I wish the Detroit elite would stop being such pretentious, uptight divas though. Also, Derrick May apparantly nicked 3 Phase - Der Klang Der Familie from Tresor and released it on Transmat without their permission, which is a bit dodgy to put it mildly.

I thought this was the first Detroit Techno track.

Also, Underground Resistance made up of a bunch of Detroit Techno producers INCLUDING Mad Mike, but not just him.

Gotta give credit to Kenny Larkin, DJ Rolando, Alan Oldham, and seconded on the Carl Craig and Derrick May.

If you go to www.alanoldham.com you can download for free 12 of his mix shows he hosted in 1990. It's not only Detroit Tech, but some Deep House and Industrial type music as well. On the first show you can hear him announce this "new guy" Carl Craig is going to play at some event in Detroit ;).

Couple of my fav tracks:

Galaxy 2 Galaxy - Hi-Tech Jazz (The Science)
Galaxy 2 Galaxy - Jupiter Jazz
Rhythim Is Rhythim - Icon

How could you possibly mention Rhythm Is Rhythm (and spell it wrong time and again) and forget Strings Of Life?

It is actually spelled Rhythim, believe it or not.

And I think Strings Of Life goes without saying anyway.

Because strings of life wasn't his best track even if it was his most popular.

I was saying it was the first detroit techno track for me to hear, of course Techno City was the first "techno" tune, no doubt about it- I have it, and I love it. I cant believe you mispelled Rhythim Is Rhythim, wow, man :disbelief: ... Derrick May is a techno legend, and his most crucial alias MUST be respected! :p

Of course there were dozens of detroit techno artists that were as important that I didnt list. I listed the ones who were important to me, but of course I am familiar with Kenny Larkin and DJ Rolando, but not wirh Mr. Oldham, will check him out!

Underground Resistance had productions with several different detroit artists, from Derrick May and Juan Atkins to even Jeff Mills! BUT, Mad Mike is the main guy behind most of the best UR tracks.

WOW ... I just CLUED in into my obvious error .... errr ... the tune that goes by the name of "Strings If Life" is by Derrick May! Hahaha.... I was thinking about "Changes Of Life" ... man I am tired and oout of my mind today

My fav Jeff Mills tracks would be "CHANGES Of Life", not "Strings Of Life". I thought about one track and typed in another.

:stongue: Everyone should understand this little error in thinking ;)
