Ok, I recently spoke to a local producer at our record shop in town and was on the subject of how they get sounds to chop up really clean and he told me they used a gate? Now i've kinda read into this but still dont really understand it that much. I need to just kinda play around with one to get a better understanding of it. Now does anyone know any programs / vsts / plugins or anything that has a gate and possibly free? If there isint any free ones some names of some other ones would be cool and maby if they have demos or something. Me personally, I manually go back and cut / paste what sounds I want chopped up but it takes foreverrrrrrrrrrrrrrr although that isint a problem but if a gate does this for me, that would be great. Any help would be appreciated, thnx |

mgtriggergate
analogx gate
both on www.kvraudio.com
both free.
you can create a gate effect by automating the volume to jump instantly from 0 to max in a pattern. this way you can get 32 step and 64 step gating effects (really fast!) both gate and mgtriggergate are only 16 step unfortunately. |

Cool deal, thnx, I will check those out tonight when I get home. I tried manually once buy using the bypass switch on a vst but it always never sounded right. It would have click / pops. Never came out smooth but I will definitly try these out, thnx |

it would have clicks and pops because it is gating too fast and with too little attack/release. increase the attack and release for a click-free fluttery feel. |

Oli Larkin makes a mean gate called Advanced MIDI Gate. It's nice because you can set the volume envelope and your gate pattern can be essentially infinite because it is not bounded by the plugin itself. |

^^ That looks very nice, I used to use Mttriggergate, but the Ducking method is the best one imo, since you can make as many patterns as you like but that requires a bit more work to set up, but that plugin looks good- if it does what i think it does. :D |
