Someone else looking forward to this movie? On one side I'm ecstatic, but on the other I'm not sure I believe the movie can be anything close to the book which I've read 3 times. Here's something from this interview:

21. When adapting a book to film it's not so important to capture all the details, but to capture the heart and spirit of the source material. What, in your opinion, is the essence of the Hitchhiker's Guide? What are the book and the film about?

GARTH: You're quite right. You can't capture all the detail. The film would be 10 years long. We've had to boil some elements down to their essence in order to make them work on screen (with some excellent results too) but I think the themes and ideas in the book are still just as prevalent in the film. And they are as topical as they were 20 years ago. Hitchhiker's always seemed like a surreal spin on life to me. Wherever you went in the universe you would always find creatures or situations that reflected the madness of a certain aspect of ordinary life on earth. Vogons aren't that different from men you might find asleep in the House of Commons or wearing a judges wig. The President of the Galaxy shares many of our world leaders characteristics, give or take the odd head or extra arm. And the themes that run through the story such as: As a race we take ourselves far too seriously, we're always worrying about things that don't matter and not noticing the extraordinary planet we've ended up onɠThey are wonderful themes to carry home from the cinema with you. And it's all in there. You'll find it next to the bowl of petunias and the whale coming to terms with it's existence.
NICK: Wow, that sounds really good, where do I sign up.

22. What's the one thing from the story that you really wanted to include in the movie but couldn't?

GARTH: We see Zaphod stealing the Heart of Gold but I would love to have shown him skimming along in his boat on Damogran before hand. Sam Rockwell would have loved doing that.

The trailer and cast looks brilliant, I love that guy from The Office :)

I'm not sure about the movie... seems kinda.......... strange :disbelief

You know what would be really strange...

in the book they say the whole world is some sort of living computer... well what if that were true, and Hitchhiker's was actually an important part of the output

the trailer about trailers is good, but idon't like the look of the movie, especially marvin, i always imagined him much for human like, and where zaphods second head?

That search-thingy never works for me.

It's under his first head ;) Check out the hillarious Internet exclusive trailer! Best trailer I've seen in years ( and I am a trailer nerd )!

I'm so excited I'm gonna barf...

Did you guys hear about me getting blessed by Zaphod at Crobar in New York? I was heading back from the ladies room and this guy grabbed me and said "Don't Panic" (I'm a huge fan of the original BBC series, and would have come up with a smarty pants reply had it not been 4 in the morning when Digweed was spinning).

I thought I knew the guy... he was well dressed and with an entourage. I realized damn! That was Sam Rockwell!

Weeks later I find out he's freakin' Zaphod Beeblebrox.

!

not quite as cool as meeting zaphod, I was walking through london when I came across them shooting the scene of panic when the vogon fleet appears. twas the first I'd heard of the movie, wish I'd though of it at the time but I should have jumped in as an extra.
i'm still sceptical about it living up to the standards we all hope for

The problem is there are so many different versions that its probably not going to live up to everyones expectations. Im just gonna treat it like its just another version of the story and try not to have to many expectations for it!

Im in the process or reading the books for the first time, currently about halfway through Life, The Universe, and Everything. I hope they don't ruin it, because so far this book is awesome.
