I hope he dies soon so all the media can stfu about him. I DONT CARE IF HE HAS A FEEDING TUBE OR NOT...

He should step down. It must be getting pretty embarrassing for the Vatican to have him perpetually unable to fulfill his duties and I'm not sure that prolonging his life by 3 years by attaching him to a feeding tube is going to do their cause any favours.

He has the option to step down, although it hasn't happened since the 13th century I think I read. In any case, is there any sense in him persevering in this way? Even Melbourne's arch-bishop George Pell said that he should probably step down if he becomes incapacitated - surely common sense dictates that a man incapable of doing his job (and let's face it, he's been this way for years) would step aside to allow someone more capable to take over?

^^^^ Agree. But are you sure that someone who's been Pope for so long, and is in a condition such as his, posses "common sense"?

Well that's an interesting point isn't it: if he's incapable of executing "common sense" (that is, he is incapacitated and not capable - at least in a legal sense - of making the decisions of a rational human being) does he retain the title of pope even though he may well live in this condition for several more years, or can someone else make the decision for him?

As it stands, incidentally, I'm quite sure that none of the speeches or edicts he's struggled to make over the past few years have been his own and - if I were a Catholic - I'd be questioning just who exactly is in charge at the moment...

I dont think it is possible to take on the role of Pope and come out with the crap Pope's do if you do have common sense in the first place!!

The terrible dilemma facing deeply religious Catholics must be that the Pope is instated by God as his representative on Earth, so if they disagree with his choice to stay on board, they are theoretically questioning the will of God. I mean, there's no such thing as democratic safety measures in the Catholic Church, so the only way of getting rid of a stubborn Pope would be a coup - which corresponds to pitting yourself against God. At least that's how things look from where I'm sitting.

Thank God, I'm not adhering to any organized religion.

not yet :stongue:

If you think it was difficult removing Shiavo's feeding tube, what chance do you think you would have with the pope? It would be interesting if they kept him going in a vegitative state and he retained his title because he still "alive".

i know how the American christain nuts feel. But i aint sure of the catholic churches position.
