[progressive] Tyler C - Off The Deep (preview)

I've been sitting on this half done tune for a while and decided to try to finish it off. I'm more or less pleased with the structure of it, I just think the atmosphere is really lacking, and I'm having problems filling it out.

This is completely different from my normal big trancer stuff, this is just straight up progressive. I still plan to do a lot of work on it, so comments are appreciated.

right off, kick needs some work. sounds too thin.
i'd also consider a nice basswave to thicken the low end to add some atmosphere, maybe an instrumental opener. (then again, im a sucker for those).

nice bass at 1:35ish, but that kick is still too thin. might need another layer or two on the percs to give it a bit of bounce?

piano is nice, sub-lead at 2:30ish is good, but the track still feels a bit empty.

into the breakdown at 4:20ish, is a bit sudden. bring that whoosh in a bar before maybe.

i like the melody! bit more variation though. u could have done a lot more for the main break. despite the nice melody, i sort of found myself skimming through the track after the first 3 mins.

keep at it for sure!

damn, thanks for the quick reply.

i should have mentioned that this whole thing has been done in headphones thus far, so the levels could be waaaaaaay off. i think i just need to go back and throw in a lot of very subtle atmospheric stuff like small fx and such.

thanks again for the quick reply. i'll definitely keep hackin away at this one.

just listening now and i have to say some beautiful melodies in this tune and some great progression.. im gonna have to say the kick / bass lets it down a touch, perhaps the kick is a bit light by comparison to the bass.

at the break now and im really enjoying this melody, reminds me of the proggier stuff i used to listen to in the old days, but with a very newage funkier twist on it all..

all in all a great basis there but maybe a little bit more work here and there and a bit of fx to add some depth to it, otherwise, nice tune

thanks for the comments man.

yea, theres deifnitely still quite a bit of work left to bring this to where i want it. most of that work will be in filling out the atmosphere with fx and such. the kick/bass combo will also see a lot of work.

thanks again.

listening..

percs sound ok, could be fuller i think, i hear a resemblence of Blu Storm in the melody in the background there.. which is an awesome track.. lemme know if u need a remix of that..
i like those vintage strings u got there.. kick is a bit to bouncy, change that.. percussions do sound pretty good though, but still it needs a bit more drive and fullness to it imo..

and i feel more elements needs to be added to make the track more interesting, the idea is very good.. but as i always say when its not there.. were is the offbeat open hi hat?

ur on to someting, just work it.. ;)

I like it, but like everyone else is saying, the kick is a little thin and that bass does let it down a bit. It's bit... dry to me, so to speak.
