Yeah I'd agree with that psychological addiction.

Even though I've been smoking for a couple of years now, and I'm probably on 5-10 a day, I'm still fairly sure I'm not addicted to them physically, but the mental addiction is just a killer.

The difference, for those who don't know, is that with physical addiction you get this kinda tense, tingly feeling in your chest and the only way you can get rid of it is by lighting up and filling your lungs with sweet, satisfying tobacco......

Erm, the mental addiction on the other hand is just this kinda purely psychological craving - like the sort of cravings some people get for chocolate or whatever - except the craving is stronger in certain situations. For instance, whenever I'm drinking, I need a smoke there as well. Not because the alcohol intensifies my addiction or anything, but simply because I've grown so use to having a smoke with my beer (from far too frequent visits to the pub - blech).

Do I intend to quit then? At some point yes, but not in the next few months though. I just enjoy it too much, and I don't have any "desire" to quit at the moment. Like Spad said, there's no point in trying to quit unless you want to quit, and I'd completely agree with him.

What's yer brand by the way? Easily 90% of the cigarettes I have ever smoked must have been Dunhill Blues. Smooth and rich. :)

Mmmmm..cyanide. :p

I can only smoke when I'm not in my right mind.. the taste is so awful. I'd rather be stoned than feel light headed for a few seconds(which goes away after you actaully become addicted.. where does that leave you after that?).

I should buy shares in Benson & Hedges :) Using a figure of an average of 1 packet a day costing an average £3.80 over 6 years I've spent £8322.00 on cigarettes since I was 16. Enough to buy me a pretty tidy new car. So all in all, glad I quit.

Yeah, but you're missing the point. :)

People don't smoke (cigarettes anyway) for the mind-bending properties: it's a bit like saying people only drink coffee for the caffeine buzz. In fact people drink coffee and smoke cigs for similar reasons when you think about it.....

I'm not overly bothered about smoking - I don't smoke at all, but unfortunately, someone always hands me a couple when I'm battered and I think it's a great idea!
- That is till the morning and if I even smell a fag I usually spew :(

As for weed, I can smoke that till the cows come home (sometimes they actually do :p) but I don't smoke it all that often. After all, it's got tobacco in :(

personally i dont like cigs at all, i get the idea about the atmosphere though. if you want a real centerpeice to set a cool night, get yourself a nargila! they are dirt cheap in isreal, about $25 for a 2 foot tall one. now what you get to smoke is coarsly (not finely) chopped tobacco leaves that have been sitting in molasses for a while. cool part is the molasses comes in many flavors; apple, cherry, grape (yummy), mint, appricot, strawberry, fruitpunch, watermelon, i have even tried licorice flavor! the puff is so smooth and thick and you dont even feel it in your lungs, it leaves a great taste in your mouth and best of all since its the real tobacco leaves it doesnt have much of those nasty chemicals the put in cigs, for example it has basicaly no tar.
go out and try one!

:) I'm happy to say that I quit smoking. Well, quit buying packs that is. I still smoke now and then - especially at parties. But during the week, I don't smoke at all. I don't even have nic fits. Now that I've stopped buying cigarettes, I have a lot more money to spend. I don't know why I started in the first place. Now more than ever do I notice how much cigarette smoke smells - eeew. Anywayz, that's my happy note. I still think DuMaurier cigarettes (Canadian brand) are the best.

yah i tend to smoke a lot for a 'non smoker' and from anyone ive talked to most people who started recently just began at parties and slowly progressed from there. i think the main reason people get hooked is cause they buy em. it sounds cheap, or like im a mooch, but if you only have one or two, or at least split a pack and then refuse to buy more the next day, its pretty easy to not get addicted. the headaches are a pain in the ass sometimes, but then again its hard work looking so cool...:) late/

i smoke. i have to agree with renegade, there is a huge mental addiction.... although sometimes its physical, b/c sometimes when you get really stressed out or upset you crave a cigarette.... to me i guess i like the whoosh of tobacco going in my lungs. I'm not a chain smoker typically, but i notice i smoke more in social situations...... often when i am hanging out with friends i WILL turn into a chain smoker! i dont know...... i really don't want to quit, b/c i enjoy doing it.... but then again i haven't had any relatives or friends die of it yet so i bet that would change my tune. Or like what happened to Spad. Then i guess i'd quit. I smoke Marlboro Ultra-Lights, BTW, which are veryyyyyy light, almost like air. I mean i guess its not so much the nicotine as just having something in your mouth and inhaling it. i guess...... the days where i stay home and do nothing, i never had a cig........ but the days i go out and do stuff and hang out all night, i'll have a pack that day. weird...... but i guess it shows its all mentality.
