Software Sampler Question

I've been through 3 software samplers and I have to say that, like operating systems, THEY ALL SUCK!!
Gigastudio:
I have used GS since it was called gigasampler (with win98) and the earlier versions were extremely stable, loaded fast, and had no problems (*sigh* those were the good ol' days when software didn't need bells and whistles up it's ass). With WinXP, GS became unreliable, so I waited for years to upgrade to GS3. The problem I get with this is that the performances are more complex (meaning I have to manually assign bank numbers to loaded samples), it takes longer to load, AND on top of that, there are monitoring files which monitor the directory structure of my hard drive. This is a bad thing because almost every time I need to create new folders, the damn software shuts my computer off (hard reboot). So even though GS3 is at version 3.4 or 3.5, it's still VERY unstable and when I have it installed, I can't rely on my computer running without fearing it will automatically shut off because of some GS driver conflict.
Kontakt:
I went out and wasted money on this P.O.S. too... My main gripe with this sampler is that it's annoying to navigate the directory tree, it cannot play notes on the 1st beat of a measure unless the MIDI file is buffered (meaning you have to place the starting notes on measure 2 instead of 1 to give it some time to buffer), and from my experience with converting gig files to nki files, the nki files have to go in the same folder as the samples. That's damn annoying if you have lots of nki files to preview and have to manually search through tons of subfolders. Also, Kontakt crashes when you have loaded gig files and saved them in SONAR.
VSampler:
Ah yes - the free sampler that comes with SONAR. The file system on this sampler should go down in history as the most confusing and ill-designed EVER!! This crap-assed sampler is infamous for wanting to duplicate wav files, even though they already exist. Even if you have a vsi file that has samples linked it, VSampler STILL asks where to find the wav files!!! Unless you want a heart attack from frustration, stay away from this one.
Serisouly - why the HELL can't software companies design a damn sampler that is easy to use, friendly to navigate and preview samples, and doesn't crash, cause crashes, or buffer incorrectly??
So does anyone have ANY experience with any good samplers??? I've wasted my money of the above three - why not check out some more right?

| Does anyone own Kontakt? I am trying to make my own instrument, but I don't know how to import a whole bunch of wav files at once. I go to the mapping editor view and can only bring in 1 wav file at a time. |

| a very nice sampler and easy to use is EXTREME SAMPLE CONVERTOR 2 but the only bad thing about .... it is working only as standalone.VSAMPLER 3 it is quite a good vst sampler and quite practical...i dont know wich version you own but 3 version is quite great.if none of this samplers satified you should try the new KONTAKT 2 and that's the best on the market... |

Yes - I just purchased Kontakt 2 and I'm frustrated with it. All I want to do is to make a new instrument without having to manually click on 50+ wav files to import them into the mapping editor. I want to select a group all at once and it won't let me do that. On top of that, the mapping editor gives a default key range of 3-4 to each sample when really I want each sample to have it's zone be only 1 key range. Creating new instruments is a BITCH in Kontakt!! :whip: Does someone know an easier way of doing this?
I was using VSampler 3.5 I made all my gig files into vsi files and then used the vsb files as "performances." Even though the vsi files specifically have the samples mapped, VSampler STILL asks where the samples are!! That means if you accidentally select any folder except the one which has the vsi's samples, you immediately create duplicate wav files of your vsi files!! |

Rene (the creator of z3ta+ synth) formerly of rgc:audio is now working for CAKEWALK.
I see that he has been busy creating a new sampler synth for the anticipated release of Project5 v2.
It will be called "DIMENSION" and ships with over 3GB or samples....it looks really interesting...a graphically manipulated envelope generator and FX section! Much easier to tweak and use then SampleTanks, etc.:thepirate |

| I don't know if it's possible, but can you use the ESX24 outside of logic (as a plug-in for other apps?). That's a great sampler. |
