Junkie and Sander are completely different in my opinion.
both of the atmosphere's they provide are amazing, but very diff. from one another.
im not going to say if its house or prog or whatever....
its just junkie and sander.

OMG Sander at Ultra who heard that DnB track that (once again I forgot the name to it even though I love the song) he played at 33, slowed the down, and omg it was like omg I cant even describe u had to have been there for that. It was definately worth missing him on the 19th up here in the A. |

DA, Sander's just a progressive DJ. I've seen him numerous times, and he's been different at different events. He's a great DJ who is very intellegent with his track selection and can fit to play to almost any crowd. Personally, I found him as a great 'gateway DJ' who broke me out of the mold of listening strictly to trance, and into house music. Most hardcore strictly house DJs can be tough to handle if you listen to trance first, as their sets seem to lack the energy and BPM counts to keep you into it, but Sander's sets always seem to have a great amount of energy and he seems to seamlessly slide between sub-genres creating a unique sound to each set. The only knock I can think of for Sander is his over-use of remixes. Playing remixes of 80's tunes is ok, but sometimes he jsut goes overboard, and he claims to be influenced by American hip hop, and as a result can go overboard on remixed tracks of missy elliot and the likes. I'm so glad he's no longer whoring that Justin timberlake remix. But other than that, he's phenominal.
I highly recommend going out to see sander to anyone who asks, but to get a good feel about what he's like you simply can't download one set of his and get the full picture. Examples of his range from an assortment of sets:
Essential mix of the year 2001 is probably the best 'thought out' set I've ever heard in my life. Primarily progressive trance, the set has elements of everything with a nice easy flow to it. Sander goes through all types of progressive going from smoothe, to chunky. One of my all time favorites.
NuBreed CDs. Harder progressive, more 'on the edge', a mix of progressive house, house, funk, tech and electro, another 2 great CDs, and a shining example of a harder less trancey set with plenty of energy.
Everybody CDs. Somewhat smoother than the NuBreed CDs, sander shows hints of Timo Maas like progressive twisted without getting too weird.
Sander recorded live set from Space, 2003[?], is an example of what I don't like about sander using remixes.
Sander [not recorded, but there might be a copy floating around on the 'net] playing one of his residency sets from Stereo in Montreal in 2003. Plays very dark, heavy dirty beats suitable for Stereo's oversized system at a small dark afterhours club. By far, his sets at stereo are the best I've heard him play, but that's my own personal [DDTT] influenced choice of beats. If you can't find a set of that, you can grab Medway - Trauma [inkfish remix] as an example of what that sound was like, well when the bass in that song kicks in anyway [there may be a bass drum for the first 6 mins or so, but you'll know when the real bass kicks in].

sander man i dunno where to start... hes not progressive... hes not house.....
hes like a mix of progressive funkeeeeey house. his sets will have you grooving like no other dj has ever made u groove son! sure hen u think of pvd and stuff like that is more like thy bang the our of the music and its good
but sander just groooooves.. if that made sence |

ok, ok ok, i finally saw this thread as i just got home...Sander style is definitely unique but also definitely progressive...its the records one plays and also how he mixes them that makes a label...through all the past years i have seen sander move from proggy tech trance to some harder housey stuff to just plain funk which he is noted for...i say his style now is a banging hard chunky style of prog...he is on a peak right now that dj's usually only see for a short period, but i think he has already elvoved in the eyes of most as a talented person so can now concentrate on where he wants to take the music...since i first ever heard him until now i have been into every bit of it...the differecne is now everyone is picking up and he has become huge in the past year or so...to each his own obviously and for me it is still sander at this point in time...we will see what happens in the future but i think he will remain for a while...after this past week i still will go to see sander again and again and im glad he will be at space alot this coming year...

his compilations demonstrate his progression from the progressive trance to the funky chunky style - love to see how he's evolved and created his own style. love him. been stalking him from chicago to london back to chicago to miami and hopefully soon in nyc! |

jxl has just rocked it each time i've seen him here in new york... it's almost like headbanger-style of progressive house.
sander's music is eclectic... he brings in trance-y tracks, can veer towards house, and plays everything in between. i think that's the best way i can describe both of these flying dutchmen :D |
