Getting good results with "Enable Digital CD Audio" in WIndows.

I like listening to CD's with this enabled coz of the superior sound quality (my stereo's e so without it everything's a tad tinny). Only trouble is there's a very faint "crackle" which I guess are errors in the encoding (or whatever).
Anyway, does anybody have any tips for getting good results out of this? I have an SB Live! so there's no reason why the quality shouldn't be good IMHO.
Any ideas? |

disable the "DMA transfer" of both your hd and the cd-rom drive...SB Live! probably has some problems with the VIA chips on your motherboard
this will decrease the performance but you'll get rid of the crackle
hope this helps :) |

Sorry I think you have me confused with somebody who knows what he's doing :) How exactly do I do that? And when you say it'll decrease performance in what ways do you mean?
Thanks a lot btw. |
