So I was wondering since I stumbled upon a music education site. Wondering about trance, and other kinds of edm, and what their textures are. So for anyone who knows about music theory, please help me out because i'm too stupid to figure it out by myself and would like the answers given to me by someone who is smarter.
What musical texture are the following genres/subgenres (Monophonic, Polyphonic, Homophonic, Mixed):
Epic Trance
Classic Trance
Funky House
Deep House
Hard Techno
Detroit Techno
DnB
IDM
Thank you for your time. Hope someone can help me out with this serious non-April Fools related question. Bet you thought this was another April Fools thread. Well it is. It's a reverse April Fools thread.

It depends, really.
Trance tends to heterophonic, since it often has a main melody with other subordinate melodies. But this is very vague. I'm sure there are some polyphonic epic tunes because trance relies on melodies so much that it would be only natural to different melodies playing independently (although I can't think of names).
Techno relies more on percussion, so, if there's any melody at all, it's most likely monophonic.
D'n'b is too broad. You can have polyphonic trancesteppers and monophonic darksteppers.
House in general though is pretty much heterophonic, as far as I know, and idm is just too beepy for me to be classified :p |
