mixing with headphones (pg. 2)

Sony MDR 700V
Sony MDR 750V
Pioneer HDJ1000

I think the big debate for dj mixing headphones is between the pioneer and sony 700's... they both have their pros/cons, but the major one being that the 700s are 30$ less. If you're going to spend 119$ anyway though, you may as well be willing to spend 149$ for the pioneers :P I prefer the pioneers if anything because of the enhanced bass (it's so nice for headphones...), the comfort level, and the fact that they don't crack after one year (like some of my old ones *cough*sony*cough*)

The Pioneer SE-M8's would be better then the HDJ1000s for studio work. The 1000s are more bass heavy, and that extra $30 is only really going on the swivel mechanism.

All of my tracks are fully mastered/mixed on Sony MDR-7506 headphones.

$100 USD - can't go wrong.

Yes, these are hard to beat for the money. They're hard to beat, period. I was using my friend's much higher priced sennheisers and I thought the 7506's were by far superior.

i love my AKG headphones. Altho i usually can get a good mixdown after a third or fourth try, they are very good for mastering.

i use Sennheiser HD25's the quality reigns supreme over other style dj headphones as such

Same here, but I use my Senn'ys only to producing ;)

They're actually WAY too bass heavy, so I bounce back and forth between these and my AKG K240's. If I can get a mix to sound good in BOTH of these headphones and then my monitors (Alesis Active M1's), then I know my mix should be fairly good.

How are those monitors? Thinking about buying either them, the beringer truth's or KRK RP5/6. Are the Alesis ones a good choice?

-Ultrasone PROline 750
-Ultrasone HFI-700
-Beyerdynamic DT-990 PRO (I use these)

I'm upgrading to HFI-700's soon - those are excellent headphones!

I don't like any of the Sony headphones mentioned because they tend to hurt my ears (actual ears, not ear drums) after about an hour of continuous use.

I have the same problem, it makes them physically hurt and you have to take them off and have a break. Nitemare isn't it. Which ones do you recommend then (for being non-painful)?

Have you guys notice that the 7506s are a bit too reveiling? I can hear every single little imperfection, click, etc. from commercial CDs that have samples from vinyls...and when designing sounds, I can hear the alias in oscillators. I did a research online and found that most people avoid them for listening to music for that reason...the headphones show everything. I take it's a good thing for production, but not for listening to music, as you don't want any distracting sounds and imperfections. I cannot hear these sounds in my monitors, home stereo, car stereo, other people's stereos, etc...only with these headphones. :)

paulc_dj,

All the headphones I listed are VERY comfortable. Also, Beyerdynamic DT-770 Pro, if you prefer closed-back design.
