thanks for that Kuff, the reason I left out Seduction and others is because i really only know these 2 songs, and I personally love Balearica heaps more than Summerdream, so I wanted to see if anyone else did too!

...doesn't seem that way!

Moon...

I made a post on Matt Hardwick's forum about this track and the time it takes labels to release tunes etc...

Here is the post so it might help explain....

Hey All

Really interesting topic this, wanted to add a little myself...

Its true, there is a fine line between hype and just boredom of a track. Its this fine line that labels and producers try to get just right in order for a track to hit maximum sales.

The Artists Point Of View:

The problem is that when an producer finishes a new track they need to get it out to labels and DJ's in order for it to be heard and hopefully signed. This can easily cause problems with leaking as some people will simply share anything.

Our main problem at the start was that we went to a load of labels with our tracks and no one was interested in what we have to offer. Labels listened and liked them but just wouldn't sign them. Our next step was to get some DJ support so we sent the tracks off to Jules, PVD and Armin and within days of PVD playing us on Soundgarden we had 3 deals on offer.

I think you need the DJ's to support the tracks without question. The problem as I see it then sits with the label and how quick they can then put the release out to capture the hype.

Each of the labels we have worked with so far have been pretty good with releases. Above The Sky and JOOF had the tracks we produced for them out in a matter of a few months after we handed over the masters so sales were good. You also have to remember though that when you give a track over the label may request a remix from someone they have in mind, now you start to add on time for that producer to work on the track and also take into consideration what other work they are doing, ie tours.

Summer Dream Issue:

The situation with Summer Dream for us has a slightly different twist. The track was originally written in 2003 and given to Above The Sky. They loved it and decided to hold onto it as we already had a few others tracks ready to come out. The last thing you want to do is release a load at the same time causing people to get quickly bored of you. So in late 2003 they came back to us and asked us to update the track as we have moved onto new software etc and perhaps we could improve the sound.

In early 2004 the track was signed up and a remix was sorted from the S.Luna boys. ATS made up 2 promo cd's and sent one to Armin and one to PVD just for some feedback and within a few days Vandit called wanting to sign the track. PVD had stated that he liked the track so much he would remix it for a release on Vandit. So the deal was that ATS would release the track in around March with the original and Luna mix in the UK and the in July or August Vandit would release it in Germany and a few other countries with the same 2 mixes and PVD's exclusive mix.

The problem was that Alphamagic which distributed for ATS then went bust leaving ATS trying to sort a contract with Amato and release the other tracks that should have came out. Summer Dream was delayed and finally the decision was taken not to release it all on ATS.

Since then PVD has been touring and working on various large projects so the remix has been delayed. Just as it was finally agreed that it would come out early this year, Vandit announced that POD2 would be PVD's next big album and again the track would be delayed to coincide with the release of the album .

If all had gone to plan with this track, the chance of selling 2 copies of this track would have been fairly high. People who wanted the track early would have been able to buy it from ATS and then again picking up the 2nd copy months later for the PVD version but through a series of events not in our control or the labels at times, this hasn't happened.

The good part for on this for us is that with the original mix being so widely available on the net from legal download sites etc, the PVD mix on the other hand has been very closely guarded so we still have an amazing chance to sell well. Vandit really do look after the files as long as possible so that's helped us so much.

At the end of the day, we are really just happy that the track is coming out and it gives us something to look forward to this year and its also amazing to know that one of the biggest DJ's in the world wants to remix your work.

The Labels Point Of View:

My last point is this, with so many labels really struggling to make the number of sales that you would have seen back in 1999 and 2000. During that period a label would have been putting out a track a week or more. They knew then money would coming rolling in from the sales even if one record flopped. As for now a label is more likely to release a track a month simply because they need to find the best material going, fund it and try and make the money back so you can also understand a label doing everything to protect the track till the last moment.

Kuff I really appreciate your condor...

Customer point of view:

I first heard Summer Dream maybe 14 months ago. This was before I knew PVD was playing it. I was so excited to get the track and made sure my local DJ shop would order a copy. Then I saw it was signed to Vandit and there would be a PVD edit. Again I was excited because Vandit vinyl is physically top quality (nice and thick and pressed well) and I generally like the harder PVD edits.

Summer 2004 passes and Summer Dream never came to be. Then at the beginning of the year Vandit says it's an upcoming release. Sweet! Here for summer 2005! WRONG! So now we are being told around the time of TPOD2, which Vandit says will be September 5th. Basically it's going to miss summer 2005. I can't tell you how many times I've thought 'man I wish I could drop Summer Dream right now'. As a customer I kinda feel like I've been jerked around.

Well I wanted it for Summer 2005. I gave up on a Vandit release and I picked it up on ATS Digital. I made my own edit, which I've been playing.

I know you would like to see a release and that you aren't part of the problem. I just needed to vent.
