Computer issue

Hey everyone, since last week whenever i use my computer to say do something like animation, or upload something, it will use too much of my CPU power making me not even capable to do anything else until the process is finished. The other day i was uploading something to a website, and i checked my task manager and it mentioned that 80% of my CPU was being used, or even the other day i was compiling a movie DVD and it used 80-90 percent. This definetly wasn't like this before, but i forgot that if i was on the internet when i was doing the small things like DVD or something... also even games get lagged silly, even though i don't play games much at all, but the small times i do it lags.. even on a game i know my computer should have no problem running it.

Here are just small specifications of my current computer:
Processor: Intel Pentium 4, 3.0 Ghz w/ Hyper Threading Technology
Memory: 1 Gig RAM (2x512 DDR 400 PC3200) running on Dual Channel
Video: Radeon 9800 Pro 128mb

and such and such...

Anyways is this a virus that will cause *MOST* stuff related to video?

The other day i was using Cinema 4D and 3ds max 7 at the same time for exporting in one other and .. i remember i was capable of running these stuff without problems, but now they lag just a bit... stuff like adding Caustics just slow down even harder.

I should mention that first off i don't know if this is related to this but my brother installed MIRC on this computer for no reason of telling me, and whenever he would use it without a firewall, it would freeze the computer after 20 minutes or so and send it to the blue screen. this happened like 7 or so times before i decided to delete it, not hitting blue screens anymore.. but it is laggin like .

Even my bootscreen takes longer than usual to load up, which definetly shows something is off. That slow bootscreen issue was before i put in MIRC i should mention.. so maybe something was wrong before this ass thing was installed.

Anyone ever had a similar problem, and would know how to fix it...

I've ran Spybot, Adaware and Microsoft Anti-Spyware and they found nothing.. Norton Anti-Virus found nothing either.. so what the hell is going on...

Any ideas from the wiz people? I forgot if this issue comes into play whenever i go on the net, because im currently at studies atm so i have no clue.. but will confirm or not when i get back.

man, that could really be a number of things and its hard to diagnose in these kinds of situations.. i think if your boot sequence is taking ages then thats a cause for concern.. naturally if it was just the software which had problems you'd see that windows logo and at this point it would take 10 years to load. seriously, if you cannot for the life of you figure out what the problem is, clean it all off and reload the OS on there.. 9 times out of 10 this will fix the problem.. you've probably got useless junk on there anyways.

good luck mate.

I Guess so, but there has to be a easier way to fix it isn't there? If this really is a virus thats causing this to pump all the resources into one program even if the program doesn't need it.. But yeh if i can fix it by this week, then this will be the only solution i guess..

Cheers Dave

try logging in to do a free online scan @ housecall.antivirus.com .. that's not a bad site

hit alt+tab+del and look in the processes tab and see wat is taking up that 80% of ur CPU.. watever it is, put it into google and look it up.. might be spyware that ur programs cant detect... or a worm sending out info to mIRC channels.. can be alot of things.. hope it helps

oh yes and 'System Idle Process' SHOULD be wat takes up most of ur CPU in the Processes tab.. its perfectly normal

NAV is a POS.

try the freeware version of AVG.

failing that..

code:
c:\>format c:

Backup
Format
Reinstall

Its the only way to really get everything running nicly again, plus its good to do every 6 months or so just to clean out the residual crap that windows tends to build up.

Won't take nearly as much effort and time as trying to fix individual problems.

Spot on!

Half the time at work when we get a problem thats half an issue its just easier to re-image a machine.

Besides you only really need to backup mp3 and pr0n

I got partions so don't really need to backup, but the funny thing is that i just formatted 2 weeks or so ago and installed a fresh copy of Windows. The process of formatting is a ing bitch, not the formatting really.. but the installing of drivers, the Network setup and such and such.. (yes im lazy :D)

thanks anyways everyone, I ran that Trend and AVG anti-virus and still nothing. I heard that this problem is common, i just hope that it is a virus and not hardware problems, but i kind of doubt its the latter.

Cheers, formatting tomorrow :(
