Question for Reason users??

I seen people do this before, and I have absolutely no clue why you'd do this, so please clear this up for me.

OK, here it is...

First Open Reason. (Empty rack)
Then, create a mixer.
Next, open an effect (lets use reverb as our example)
(This should be a send effect, wired through the Mixer)
By default the reverb should be wired to the AUX send out & return on the back of the mixer. Move the audio output (reverb) from the return (mixer) to the CH.1 - audio input (mixer). So what you have is the reverb's input connected to the mixers AUX - Send out; and the reverb's output connected to the mixers CH.1 - audio input.

Neither the reverb or the mixer actually produce sound, to my knowledge, so what's the point of this? I've seen this done in much more complicating ways, connecting Matrix's, etc.., but without connecting a sound processor, like the Malstoem or Subtractor, how can this be useful??

The only difference between that and normal send routing is that the send effect will have its sound on an own mixer channel which can be useful I guess. I'm not sure what you're talking about saying that there's no sound going through, I mean if the effect device's input is connected to the send you can send stuff from other mixer channels to it.

Yeah I do SOMETIMES but but it's more out of bad habbit then good practice. Basically, if you have something playing in channel 2 for example, and turn the AUX 1 send (Reverb) in channel 2 all the way up, you'll be able to control the reverb via Channel 1's fader(if both the reverbs outs are going to channel 1).

If you had the reverbs outs going to the mixers returns, you would control the amount of reverb send with channel 2's aux controls, and have channel 1 free.

Basically, the first way gives you a visual gauge of how much reverb sound you're getting via the mixers VU display. The second way doesn't.
The first way takes 2 channles, and probably more processing. The second way only takes one channel, and probably less processing.
