BEATMATCHING: One cup or two? (pg. 3)

One cup normally, two if I'm having trouble.

I've been spinning about a year... I started with two, since I was used to it from years of traktor use, but I've recently started using one, and I like it a lot more. It really forces you to concentrate and pay attention, and you can tell your two tracks apart a lot easier. I can beatmatch a lot faster now. And my transitions have gotten a lot better and tighter now that I use one ear. It's way way quicker and easier to quickly check with one ear during the middle of a transition than try and put on both cans and take them back off. Plus, if I've got my volume fairly cranked (and especially if you're in a club with good monitors), you can just leave one can on all the time as you transition, and just quickly turn your cue off and on to check your track.

I still use both cups here and there in my mix just to make sure that both tracks are perfectly aligned, but I'm getting more confident with my one ear and I'm using it less and less. I'm also find myself a lot more involved with the actual music, dancing around and whatnot, instead of being real absorbed in the headphones.

one to get a feeling of both songs then back to two to get them lined up closely then one for right before transition and then one through the transisition.

Its one and one only. Stop being N00bs. You cant spin music only listening whats in your heads phones. sounds differently in a room, club, hall, etc..... You have to make sure everything sounds correct. People only use two because the booth or club is too loud and listening for cues and because their probably trying to save the hearing throughout the night....thats exaactly the oppsite whats going to happen if you continue to mix in your head phones.

there is no right way to DJ. It is all personal preference. Whatever blows your hair back i guess.

if the system is good i'll use one, if it's crap i'll use 2

i use two. it's just personal preference.

right now i'm waiting for a new pair of headphones to come in cuz the left side of my current ones broke. so now i'm forced to use one cup.

i always use one....but i use my right ear, and monitors are usually on the left side. if i'm not sure if the beats are lined up (bad monitors) i play both tracks through one cup.

When @ Home I tend to use both.

When OUT I naturally just do 1 cup.

One cup usually, simply because you like like a wanker with your headphones on the whole time

I use one when im making their first major adjusments in the bpm the two to get it fine tuned and to know what it sound lyk on the speakers. I just started using 1 cup a little while ago

I ordered a Korg Kaoss mixer from America sometime ago but I don't use it because you don't have the option of having both tracks coming out of both earpieces. I can't mix with one earpice. I probably could if I could have my music louder, but when it's quiet I think I've matched it and it's way out when I bring the track in. I hate it. I like to have both tracks coming out of both earpieces.
