Great game imo, and a solid tournament as well. May was too strong, Illionois couldn;t get the three ball to fall, and players in foul trouble toed the line for North Carolina in ther first national title since 1993.

Congratualtions to all the NC fans on this board, and to all of you who will soon be jumping on the baby blue bandwagon.

I normally do not post in the sports forum but I just wanted to give my 2cents..........F#@K NC. The amount of money I "almost" won is enough to make me.....AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH. Placed a wager on who would win the title before the season started. I had 200 to 1 odds....this informs you that even a small wager would be good. Gotta go, need to find atm!

PS--congrats all NC fans

What sports site was giving Illinois 200 to 1 odds before the season?

Congats Tar heels and especially coach Williams. Roy deserves the title after all these years with NC and Kansas.

Roy Williams doesn't deserve anything. With all the talent he's had in the last ten years, the fact that he hadn't won a title before this alone shows he's not a very good coach. More NBA players have played for Williams than any other coach.

The continuance of referees giving powder blue-clad players the benefit of the doubt just because of the aura of Jordan, etc. apalls me.

A very anticlimactic end to the season, in my opinion, and a shame a group of all-stars beat a team.

As a KU Alum who resides in Lawrence, KS, I gotta tell you about the mixed bag of emotions that came from me and everyone around me as we watched this game in a local downtown bar. It was pretty evident that most folks at KU wanted Illini to win, partially as a result of them being Bill Self's recruits and former team, and mostly because of an ailing heartbreak and bitterness feeling that never quite left when Roy grabbed his stuff and ran back to his alma mater.

He left an unbelievable impression on his fans and alumni here at KU. The guy had more ing power than the damn governor for Christ's sakes. This entire state wanted to have him win just one championship so badly here at KU, not just for themselves, but really for him since he was so close so many times. We truly absolutely loved the guy here. And for that, I can't help but feel so happy that he finally won. I'm also so very proud of him for turning around those selfish players and got them to play team ball. It was quite a sight to watch UNC this year runnin' and gunnin' like the days of old here at KU with Hinrich, Collison, Miles and Langford. It's just downright great basketball and very fun to watch a team play like that.

But undeniably there's also a real feeling of resentment watching that team celebrate and cut down the nets instead of our KU team doing it under Roy. I think the feeling would have been very different had he won just 1 championship here, but unfortunately that wasn't the case. It honestly felt a little bit like watchin' your girlfriend go to the dance with another guy. He may be a great guy and ultimately may be what's right for her, but damn does it sting watching them hold hands!

And by no means is this a knock on our current coach, Bill Self. Despite his first round loss, he is so incredibly well respected here, and brings such a wonderful positive, affable persona everywhere he goes. I met him at the beginning of this season outside of Allen Field House. 2 months later I was running by Allen and he called out my name to me and waved "hi". And Coach Self does this with EVERYONE he sees. Not only that, but his recruiting ability is second to none - witness those Illini players this year, as well as Chalmers, Micah Downs, and Julian Wright from the McDonalds All-American game coming in next year. Self will have his day in the spotlight soon, I do not doubt that for a second. We would be absolutely crazy not to be happy with him.

But the bittersweet feeling is undeniable. I am truly so happy for Roy, truly so envious of UNC, and I highly suspect that we'll all be seeing a good slew of more Final Fours and Championships coming out of Chapel Hill.

Good for you, Roy.

I don't think that its a suprise,i looked into each team NBA prospects - all the rest had like 1 or 2 and NC had like 4...

at the end its all about the players.

good job roy williams and north carolina .. give a ol' pat on the back to roy for finally winning one (too bad behind dean smith's shadow at dean smith's school .. :nervous: .. no matter how many years removed dean smith is from north carolina, he will always represent unc in some shape or fortune .. his name is everywhere on the campus) ..

but as for roy williams and his past days in kansas .. answer this question ... what is the smiliarity between these players :: jacques vaughn, raef lafrentz, scot pollard, billy thomas, and greg ostertag ?? a very dismal nba career .. :wtf: ..

although paul pierce is making a name for himself, and cant say much about heinrich and collison as of yet, but they have been holding ground as of late .. heinrich reminds me of j.j. reddick .. they both have sweet jumpers ..

No sports site! I work in a pretty snobby part of atlanta and I'm in the customer service type industry...one of my customers just happens to be a full time book....He told me I was stupid for placing a bet like that but since it was before season he said he would make it sweet for me (just wanted my cash). He called me two days before the title game and told me I was going to be the luckiest or most unlucky person he ever knew.....needless to say unlucky is me

No offense, but he must not be a very good book. Illinois was ranked #5 going into the season, and even though no games had been played, professional betting services and individuals rarely give such an insanely good bargain. Placing money on teams before the season starts is quite common, and If I remember correctly, Illinois was between 6x and 10x money on most sites at that time.

Of course, if he decided to give you the deal, more power to you. Even though you eventually lost, maybe it was enough of a scare that hell never do something so idiotic again.
