Radio 1 is bringing in six new DJs to play on The Residency.

The new show is being championed by Pete Tong who initially invited each DJ to record demos at Radio 1.

The Residency has been designed to ensure Radio 1 continues to champion the most important new dance music genres from the UK, whilst also giving new and emerging talent their first chance to broadcast on national radio.

Each DJ will play once every six weeks for a total of six shows. After 36 weeks the entire line-up will be reviewed by Pete Tong with possible DJ additions, new genres and changes made to the mix.

The Residency will take over from Dreem Teem's Soulful Sessions which is ending its run on the station. Spoony will continue his weekend breakfast show. Timmi Magic and Mikee B will leave the station in mid April.

You'll be able to hear the new show on
Sunday mornings 3am-5am from May 1st.

The first six DJs will be (in order of rotation):

* Eddie Halliwell – Across the board from trance, techno to hard dance

* Nic Fanciulli – Acid house and techno

* Jon O'Bir – Progressive/Uplifting trance

* Kutski – Underground hard dance/Hardcore

* Crissy Criss – Drum & Bass/Jungle

* Trophy Twins – All genres of house, from funky to tribal

Pete Tong: "I feel proud to be involved in 'The Residency' from start to finish. The plan with the show is to stay fresh and react to what's hot out there. Nic and Eddie were made Radio 1 Residents a year ago and have played at many of our live events, they've now got the chance to shine as broadcasters for the first time. The other DJs are equally promising and will cover genres across both underground and mainstream dance. I look forward to watching them grow over the next 8 months or so."

Ian Parkinson, Radio 1's Head of Specialist, Speech and 1Xtra:"I am delighted to welcome 'The Residency' DJs to the station. The addition of this slot will make our specialist music schedule the most exciting listen possible. The line-up have exceptional talent and cover genres that will appeal to a huge cross-section of our audience. Dreem Teem have hosted a great show over the past four years, I'd like to thank them for their work and wish them all the best."

Looks promising enough :)

I've heard very good things about Nic Fanciulli but i've never heard him play.

You're right, could be interesting :)

cos it's a proper radio station Lee, R1 have been going for years, that's what makes them head & shoulders above the rest when they want to be, they've put a bigger range of djs on the ess mix again, and replacing the dying garage show with stuff like this is a positive step imho

Looks good, a varied radio show like this can only be for the better of R1 me thinks.

its a step forward for Radio1 in the dance arena, but they're just re-using the same lineups they've already had for a lot of shows. Not meaning to piss on their bonfire, but predicting the first 3 wouldnt have been that hard. Im only surprised Jules isnt in there! :wtf: :D

Its good to see o'Bir finally getting something for his efforts, but i would have liked to see some freshness to Radio1 too, maybe Matthew Dekay? Max Graham needs to be heard more, im even sure Tilt would be interested in a residency!

Not bad man! I won't get into conversastion in here anyway... :P

Yeah, i think that he can bring something that radio 1 has lacked for a long time, but he needs to bring it really well in order to stand out. Im confident in the guy, and im sure alot of people are behind him.

brilliant idea.

since each DJ only plays once every six weeks, that'll be great for getting fresh new material out of them, and not the recycled crap that spews out of the weekly radio shows like asot.

looking forward to o'bir the most.
