BTW I produce Hard melodic trance, and this IS a thriving industry in the UK !!

Too true you can't but what im saying is the stickies at the top of the page will help out every newcommer to production. Theres nothing you cant add to these which will help further.

If it aint broken, don't fix it.

OK Frase, I give up!!

Dont help the noobs, let em wait 5 years to perfect their sound as it'll probably take trance to the next stage anyways !!!!

Me and frase learned the hard way, its the only way !!

PS: Noobs.....PM me if you really wanna make it into the trance / hard trance industry, as I'm probably the only person who is willing to help at this moment in time.

It is the only way, you sit & learn the sequencer of your choice. Then put your musical ideas into production terms

No matter what you may think there are no shortcuts nor secrets to success but pure hard work & dedication!

there isnt anything wrong with helping one another I've learned alot from my fellow producers in the industry but there is a large amount you half to do on your on. and yes the Stickes at the top of the page are for helping ppl out , but after that you are on your on so put ur foot in the door and go with the flow. Always rember it may sound like and suck but keep at it ull get there. As far as pro / semi pro producers here we are here and we do read the boards but we have loads of work on our hands trying to produce tracks for our selfs and labels and along with producing mix alubms , releasing our charts and etc its hard to find time to sit down and type out a long post to help other ppl out when there are allready resources out there for them to learn from.

Thx

I don't think newbies are so dependant on this site as you think. There are ways of learning this stuff without too much help, and if they need it - the info on how to to do certain things is to be found several places. I've only been into production for 1.5yrs, and I have learnt incredibly much by my self just experimenting with stuff, and reading about eq and compression. Most of this stuff has to be learn the hard way, and frankly, that's what people did long before the Internet.

It cracks me up when people on this forum re-itterate the bleeding obvious. For example

No . Just because we (yes, self proclaimed newbie here... been producing seriously for about 6 months) are new to it all, doesnt mean we are complete idiots. None of us are expecting sit down, bang out a few tracks in cubase and then all of a sudden... bam... record deal, bitches, the works.... I'd say most newbies, like their newbie forefathers who are now pro/semi pro producers are doing it because we find it stimulating, enjoyable and above all becuase of our love for trance music.

But it is a forum, and forums are generally used for sharing of ideas, tips, and helpful pieces of advice. In this case, the production of trance music. Thats why I'm here, to hear and share knowledge. Its not so that one day I will uncover that gem of advice whispered by some ancient pro, that will suddenly shoot me to trance superstardom.

So yeah, next time a newbie asks a question... give us a break huh? We're new to trance production but we love it just as much as everyone else here. Were not going to steal your record contracts or anything nasty like that. And we all realise (well the smart ones do) that there are no shortcuts or magic tricks. We just need a prod in the right direction from now and again. And if you dont want to reply to our dumb arse questions, then dont.. simple as that!

peace be upon thee, my pro brothers :D

ok, well the thing is- this shouldn't be your only source of learning, sure you can ask questions in this forum about what to use, and how to go about doing certain things with those tools- but pro/semipro producers as said won't give out secrets that will make you truly understand how they make their music. Its an art form like anything else and with practice/time/tutorials/active listening you will get better. There are tonz of usefull resources on the net where you can go and learn about the tools of the trade. Then it all depends on your musicality(knowlage of music, be it history/theory/instrumentation/synthesis/programing/etc), and your ear to put everything you gathered into something you can call uniquely your own creative composition.

Why won't we give out the information? because then we wouldn't be unique and stand out from the crowd of masses that are making music out there. I want to be able to do this for a living just as everyone else in the music industry, but will Tiesto/Ferry/Ocenlab show me step by step how they produce a track? no. they are too buzy working on building their knowlagebasse so they can produce the stuff.

I rarelly post usefull tips for n00bs and am here just to promote what I put out... selfish? yes. But i have to be right now, otherwise I will get nowhere fast.

There are books/instructors/articles in magazines, but those cost money...

Hey man, really good of you to offer teaching services to people here at tranceaddict.com.

As a producer myself, i can honestly say that if anyone wants to be totally original with there productions and cross boundries between genre's and styles, get taught by someone!

I'd love to see a discography of the labels and albums you've been featured on, maybe i could get a few tips on things from you!

Check any previous posts ive made in this forum, bar this thread & its nothing but help and support. I'm not pro nor do i consider myself as semi-pro. I'm still very much an amateur.

None-the-less the point being made at by the topic creator was why pro's werent respsonding to questions. I made the points necessary. He went onto making a newbie guide to trance sticky. Which theres already hundreds of there. I really don't know what people who are jus starting into it need.

It may crack you up when people re-itterate the bleeding obvious, yet its the same painfully obvious threads i see week in week out that beg out for the 'Use the search' feature etc etc.

Common sense really. The stickys work.

I couldnt agree more about the search function comment. I too hate seeing someone ask... how do I make a trance kick? FFS... theres a 101 tutorials and threads devoted to the subject. And my reply wasnt aimed squarely at you mate, it was more of a general comment on the 'there is no spoon' replies that get bandied around these forums quite a bit which I find kinda pointless. Theres always room for more discussion on a topic, even if its been talked about before, since not everyone does things the same way. I'm constantly surprised at production tips that come up in random threads even though I've read the stickes through a few times.

I produce progressive and trance. Been doing it a while.
I try to help out when ever a worthwhile question is asked and it's in my capacity to answer.

It's just hard sometimes to sift through all the redundant garbage around here to find the real need.

We're all very sick of hearing about:

The Supersaw

Sidechaining

Where to get samples

And HOW DO THE PROS DO IT OMG.

etc. etc.

My advice to the newbies is to really try and use the vast resources around these boards and learn as much as possible about the basics.
I think it also helps to title your thread with a clear question.
george_hales
Any pro will tell you, Push especially.

"Its not what you've got, its how you use it"

I think that alot more people should remember that. I think alot of people also expect to be able to make a hit on their first track.

People like pulser have only made it into the industry after years and years of fiddling with equiptment in their bedrooms, i think he said it took him 10 years before he made his first release infact (baring it mind he probably had a proper fulltime job and whatever else)

Tutorials, as good as they are for tips and whatever else, will not always show you the best way to do things. I don't think in the years that ive been learning (5 years before autumn falls got release), that i used any tutorials. Ive asked for tips but no more than that.
