"OM Summer Solstice Festival Completes 7 year cycle

Memo for the OM Community

The organizers of the OM Summer Solstice Festival regretfully announce that the seven-year cycle is now complete; the OM Summer Solstice Festival will not be held in 2005.

In the seven years of organizing and facilitating the OM Summer Solstice Festival, the members of Sumkidz have worked diligently within the greater community to create an event that has become important and transformational to many of those involved. The fruition of this work has been extremely fulfilling and our dreams are to continue organizing, to make a positive impact on our community and beyond. Nonetheless, we have reached the end of one cycle. We have accepted that the structure of the event cannot be sustained.

We are moving on in a new and exciting direction. Many of the members of the organizing body of the event have already relocated across the globe. As we begin a new cycle, that will propel us into 2012, we have decided to focus our energy on more intentional gatherings. We are developing projects that will more thoroughly launch our community into the global network, and we look forward to providing inspirational and creative space for learning, growing and dancing together for years to come.

In order to keep the cherished foundation of the community united; a very small, membership-based, community-built gathering is scheduled for this coming summer solstice during the week of June 20-26th. Less emphasis is being placed on sound systems, with more focus on community building and information sharing. The intention will be to cultivate more community participation and accountability. One of the requirements of membership will be a commitment to volunteer during the gathering in addition to contributing financial support.

We encourage you to remain connected to the OM community via www.omfestival.ca or visit the sumkidz website sometime soon www.sumkidz.org, which is still a work in progress, to obtain more information as it becomes available.

Thank you to everyone who has worked, played, danced and celebrated with us throughout the years. Our hearts are full with the joy of what we have created together, and we are excited about how the next cycle will unfold.

Spread the sound,

Sumkidz"
