Bah. I really, really don't agree with that view at all. Please! If any type of music is derogatory towards women in general, condoning violence and sexism, i would think it was most forms of that top 40 rap coming out all the time (can you say 50 cent?!)!

I honestly hope that article is a pisstake because if not then +1 to what trancechaos said lol :toothless

This article is not a piss-take at all in my opinion. Click here. I understand how some people could construe it that way, simply because her thesis is absolute crap and unbelievable to a certain extent, but believe me, it's not a satirical piece. However, this pales in comparison with the crap that some feminists are capable of spewing. Take a look at what Luce Irigaray, a world-reknown thinker, philosopher, "scientist", and hard-core feminist, has to say about Einstein's famous theory of relativity equation (THIS IS NOT A JOKE. It was published in a peer-reviewed journal, as an article entitled: Is the subject of science sexed?)

quote:
Is E=Mc2 a sexed equation? Perhaps it is. Let us make the hypothesis that it is insofar as it privileges the speed of light over other speeds that are vitally necessary to us. What seems to me to indicate the possibly sexed nature of the equation is not directly its uses by nuclear weapons, rather it is having privileged what goes the fastest ...

Click here for more information and absolutely asinine commentary by one of the world's most reknown feminists.

Disclaimer: I am not trashing the feminist movement at all. I believe that women should absolutely and positively stand up for their rights, like all under-privileged groups. However, I am simply highlighting some of the bull pushed forward by certain elements of the feminist movement that gets passed for truth in academic circles, amongst other places. Those in physics or those familiar with the Socal and Brickmont hoax will know what I'm referring to. Sorry for the off-topic commentary.

People are sexist. How the hell's a beat supposed to be degrade women ? Lyrics i can understand - but a frickin beat ?! I think some people have way too much time on their hand and just want to find something to whinge about.

quote:

"The beats and samples that constitute the heart of dance music are inherently misogynistic," she claimed. "As a musical genre 'Banging House' does nothing less than promote violence against women in the home.

So after I come from a 'bangin house' party, i'm so amped up i need to bash my girls head from side to side ? Who comes up with this stuff ?

"Dance music" is such a broad generalization.

But, yeah, there are some songs that I can see women getting upset over - there are a few booty tracks I can think - where the lyrics are offensive to some. And many rap tracks talk about violence to women and/or make them seem like nothing more than penis hats for men.

But it's MUSIC! Freedom of speech and all that.....it's like arguing that Marilyn Manson really made those kids shoot up their high schools because they listened to his music.

House music anti-gay?

ITS ING GAY PEOPLE THAT STARTED THIS MUSIC FOR GOD SAKE!!!

Meet her at the love parade is sexist??? Does she even know what the Love Parade is? The ONLY house song ive ever heard that is sexist and promotes violence is "beat that bitch with a bat". Even the examples shadow wolf provided were booty bass dance music and not house music.

I hate most feminists. Most feminists DO NOT want equality. Most feminists want pysogony. Do not confuse feminism with egalatrianism, they are NOT the same thing. And people like this are the same types that see the virgin mary in a soup bowl. In other words complete fruitcakes. The worst part is that some people actually buy into what they are saying and/or waste press space on them!
