Pop never did it for me :P
I used to dabble in progressive house since around 2001, then when I saw Sasha for my first time it totally blew me away. Now Sasha as well all know is very ahead of the scene and so forth, but I got such a feeling out of his set that trance never gave me. |

Everything that is living Dies eventually, you dont hear 60's , 70's or 80's music being produced any more do you.
The only reason POP music is still popular as it is a very powerfull media selling tool jesus britney has started to sell her own perfume now, the internet and the download revelation will give ppl more choice to listen what they want to, i belive trance music will exist but will split into more different styles if it doesn't than im happy to listen to my 100gb collection , pppfft. |

no, but you hear it being remixed like no tomorrow. so it's not really dead.
everything is cyclical, imo.

| Personally, I don't understand this anxiety for trance to change. I like the same old stuff. That's what makes it so loveable. I mean sure, it's nice to have variation, but not a complete change. |

This is where opinions clash.
If you look at trance today it's already changed from "200x anthem times", to name a couple of examples: Gouryella - Gouryella, Airscape - l'Esperanza, and many tunes like these.
The tunes produced today don't sound like that anymore.
And if they were people would frown and bash.
Now what happens if a DJ today plays such a tune, once it would probably receive a standing ovation, but set of these would probably end in trashing the DJ booth :o
Anyway to continue on tunes today, they are more subtle and more progressive, atleast the ones that are suppose to be trance anthems, and what happens is that most people don't like them, so they keep saying this is just another recylcing of old hits, so they tend to stray away and listen to some other types that you could hardly call trance anymore. Trance set of today consists of many styles blended into one, and in there you'll find some anthems, but not as it used to be. I would just love it if people could either accept the trance the way it is now or bugger off. Or we should form a tranceaddictclassics.com where the trance of yesterday will be discussed about, because as much as they hate it, there are people that like today's trance, yours truly being one of them. |

| I'm talking about the want for a dramatic change in approach or style. I like today's trance as well. There's some nice stuff coming out. Again, I don't mind variation. |

Yes I know what you mean, IMO if this happens trance can't be called trance anymore. It's simply something else. |

And then you get these sort of comments from people that don't like trance as it is.
They'd like to hijack the name and call it trance for themselves, Ie. prog. and god knows what else. |

you say if trance changes it can't be called trance, but before that you admit it's changed from the 'anthem' days, Surely by that thinking what you listen to now isn't trance then :wtf:
Since you say we should make a classic ta & go there, i don't agree, if you don't like ta as it is (and the fact that it was the people who liked the older stuff what made it the best community in the world) then why not just make www.tynewtranceaddict.com & go there rather than moving those who were there first :stongue: :stongue: :stongue: |

I said before if it completely changes, like if you take a guitar out of rock! What we listen today - I also said that trance sets are different, but hey it's still called trance, I am just saying people have lowered the main ingredient (super saws etc.) because apparently it's cheesy now to many.
Ok I'll agree with you on 2nd point, but it's "you" who don't seem to accept today's trance. |

The main ingredient in trance is not a supersaw. It's supposed to be acid, but it's been almost completely taken out. So again, like Ian said... by your definition, what you listen to is NOT trance.
Make up your mind. |
