I'm not quite sure what has happened here, but when I turn on my pc it immediately gets the following error:
"We apologise for the inconvinience but Window's did not start sucessfully. A recent hardware or software change might have caused this."
Then it gives a few options.
- Safe Mode
- Last known good configuration
- Start Window's normally
I have tried all options, but no matter what one you select it just starts to load up windows xp pro, and then the computer just automatically restarts and goes back to this error screen. . There has been a recent hardware change though; i recently added a dvd writer. But this was fully functional for about a week with no problems. Then all of a sudden this happens. Any idea what is happening here? Suggestions?
Cheers,
Mike. |

| The same thing that happens if I select any other of the options. It just restarts and goes back to the same error page with the same options. So it's a constant loop. |

| If it won't even boot in safe mode you're gutted. :p |

| No I don't. I did try booting from the XP CD, and then pressed R for recovery. After that I don't know what to do. |

you need to go on to do a normal install then before the format it offers the option to repair a existing instaliation
if you can wait till tomorrow night Ill go through it on my pc and give you more detailed instructions
in the mean tiem, you could try taking out all the hardware from teh pc, apart from motherboard, ram, cpu graphics card and harddrive, then attempt to boot into safe mode |

It's quite strange that a software conflict could arise after a week, isn't it? The only problem I've ever had here was a fight between my network driver and one of the sound cards (I've got 2)... but this happened immediately after I installed the spare sound card. I'd say that's why the computer re-starts even if Mikey chooses "Last good known configuration" :p
Couldn't it be a software she installed? |
