My parents just got an email saying that we had higher intranetz activity than average internet users, and would like us to disable what is most likely filesharing which causes this excess traffic.
They insist that we reply.
Wtf do I do? I dont understand. If you are paying for le intraweb shouldnt you be able to use it?
What do i do?
I hardly even use filesharing, but I did a bunch when I lost a bunch of crap 3 days ago. |

Well, Mp3s have been deemed legal to download off of filesharing in canada. As long as you dont make money or anything.

For anybody who wants to tell me what they are trying to say... heres the meat of the email.
| quote: | Blah blah blah...we proactively assesses our network to ensure it provides the best possible Internet experience. Through our analysis we have noticed the level of activity on your Internet account is substantially more than the average Internet user. It is for this reason that we are in contact with you today.
We would like to help identify the cause(s) that may be affecting your computer’s performance and most importantly your Internet experience. Often file-sharing programs Internet servers or one of many other misconfigured Internet applications can be the cause of high amounts of traffic. Not only will this affect the flow of traffic on the Internet but it also puts a major strain on computer resources.
It is important that you contact us immediately by telephone or email. If you are aware of the Internet application that may be causing this excessive amount of Internet usage please disable it and contact us. If you require assistance we would be more than happy to help. |
So what are they trying to say? Pretty much that im dling too much crap? If so should I ask them how much is a reasonable amount? And then again...how do I measure it? Its sort of hard to keep track. |

dude, canada cant avoid copyright laws. they may not actively prosecute people who do it like they do in usa, but its still illegal.
that said, i currently have 191 gigs of mp3s on my hard drive(s), and i live on a military base in VA. i dont seem to care. |

Man, thats crazy, mine wasnt that extreme.
For a rough estimate, I'd say in march i dled like 12 or 15 gigs tops. But say 6 or 10 of those gigs all were dled in a matter of 32 hours or so, after a virus hit me.
EDIT: Damn, 190 gigs? Haha! I only have a 60 gig hard drive...My intrawe3b p3n0r is so small. |
