| quote: | Rodec's Scratchbox: As we've previously discussed, Rodec's Scratchbox has long been on the horizon but now it's here. Well almost. Sadly it wasn't linked to any decks so we could get a good play on it but at least we got a feel for it's features and quality.
The first thing that hits you is the quality. It's built like a brick house - I'd hate to drop this on my foot. But not just that - it's also the attention to detail. Take the fader knobs for instance - many materials, shapes, sizes and heights were tried out before settling on the slightly slippy concave knob shape, and it works very well. The location of all the faders and switches has been carefully thought out with many DJ's being consulted before committing to prototypes.
I've posted the full specification previously but just to lift out a few points. All the faders are digital and tension adjustable. I think it's a lid-off job but tension adjust on all three is a first. Also lifting the lid gives you access to a pre/post fader fx switch. One nice trick for a scratch mixer is the assignable third channel - you can take an aux input and assign it to the crossfader. And speaking of the crossfader, there will be no cut-in adjust - simply because Rodec feel it will be so good it won't need one.
Rodec's vision is one of people buying a Scratchbox and making it their own. The overall image is very black and silver but there's talk of introducing custom faceplates, different knobs and faders etc as optional extras. One thing that did come out was that the digital in/out may well be an optional extra as not everyone needs it, thus keeping the price down.
In terms of price and delivery, estimates are in the €1000 price bracket with summer production schedules leading to a September/October delivery. |

Looks killer for a turntablist mixer.
Wonder how it'll do in that market as ( I think ) Rodec has never done any scratch mixers before and that's a very tuff market ... well like most dj categories! |
