No, Dave Clarke is well known for using the djm-600, and viceversa. There are a lot of videos of Dave using the effects and playing with the pitch as it it were an instrument. Really, I have read it in a lot of webs also and everybody always refer to Dave Clarke when talking about how to use the djm-600 :D
Perhaps in the last year he began using another mixers, but the djm-600 will be always be "his mixer".
An interview with dave clarke:
"In the interview on your DVD you say about 80% of the set is fixed?
The rest is how I put it together, that makes the difference. I use two samplers, three keyboards, four guitar pedals and the effects on the Pioneer (DJM600) mixer itself. On the keyboard keys there is text label telling me what the sample are. Because I have hundreds and hundreds of samples and I need to know where every single sample is so I can then look at it, use it and can go into a different direction if I want to go into a different direction."
"Back in the main room Dave Clarke stepped up and the place went off like a 10 mega-tonne bomb. He was really ripping up his tunes; it was audio carnage in his own unique style. He is the master of the DJM600. He can do tricks that leave you thinking to yourself, 'I thought I was good, but oh my god, I'm nowhere near his level.' Many of the tunes he played had a Surgeon style to them, an evil bass line with the odd blip and African styled percussion, his use of effects was exceptional." |

Agreed, Dave Clarke is an exceptional DJ.
However when I see articles like this, you always have to take into account the level of the person writing it. If James Zabiela wrote that then I would be thinking... whoah this guy must be god.
I once saw it stated in Mix Mag that Halliwell was on the level of a DMC champion, however anyone in the know will understand that this simply isn't true.

For all the answers stating that the 600 this and that, listen to what they guy is telling you. A lot of what Dave Clarke does can be traced back to some good ol' hip hop skills i.e. Transformer scratching and Doubling up. He then brings some new tricks to be placed along side it. He is a clever DJ who knows music very well indeed.
Before we get lost in a storm of technology and what programs do what etc. A lot of good DJing has it's roots in hip hop fundamentals. Some of the party tricks pulled by the greats of old. Just to put things into perspective, those guys were pulling some of these tricks out of the back before I was born and that's way before most of you.
He has a lot of pre rehearsed stuff but in a way that allows him to adlib and get creative, nothing strange there. Nearly all DJs I know have something like that even if it's just a combination of tracks they mix that works particularly well.
Dave Clarke rocks there is no doubt about it. But look beyond Tech sometimes guys.
