I have it from a good source that their fleet is already amassing off the coast of Normandy and are preparing the higgins boats. |
Perhaps the Barbary Pirates are going back on tour?

Brilliant! More sources on the same thing. Yes, there's a corruption scandal in Canada. Where's your evidence that this is "just the tip of the iceberg", that "Canada has become a banana republic", and that "Canada is the most corrupt country in the West"?
As you can probably(?) deduce from the answers in this thread, there's not a whole lot of respect for your hypotheses in this sub-forum. These gargantuan and undocumented jumps to outrageous conclusions are the reason why. |

The corporate lobbyists and oil industry shills must have migrated North for Canada to become so corrupt.
 |

"Die, corrupt infidels!!!" :stongue:
edit: By the way, what exactly are the countries of the west? I wonder if the fact that we're South from Rio Grande de-westernises us. It would be cowardice if Latin American countries challenged Canada on a dispute of what's the most corrupt country. Most countries (if not all) would defeat Canada by far. |

You have to bare in mind that SW is a staunch opponate of the ruling Liberal Party. He's about as right wing as a Canadian can get. He's probably pretty excited about the current scandal as it represents an opportunity for the right wing party in Canada to sieze power if an election were held today. I'm sure the thought of a Conservative (right wing party) government gives him a tremendous hard on since we've not had a right wing party in power here since the mid-nineties. At any rate, you hit it on the head, there is no evidence that this is part of broader systemic corruption. Additionally, what SW fails to mention is that the man who has given the evidence upon which the attached stories are based is also charged with several Criminal Code offences for which his trial will commence in the near future.... could it be that some of his testomony is meant to deflect attention from himself? |

That's a great picture of Jean! He's our most ass-kickin' Prime Minister ever.... he actually disarmed a knife weilding man who broke into the Prime Minister's residence and choked a protestor to the ground when physically confronted.
I would suggest that generally speaking, when people refer to "the West" they are refering to Western Europe, the USA, and Canada. Really, the industriallized economic powers. I think you're right... the Rio Grand is the southern limit to "The West" in the Americas, The Mediterranian/Ageian Seas in Europe, the Pacific is the western boundry and the former iron curtain would be the eastern. Despite your hemisphere you are not "The West" and nobody hates you as being part of that non-discript group. |

Heh... I always thought is was the Pizza parlors that I was to keep an eye out on.
As for the corruption in the Canadian Federal Government, heck the West (of Canada, that is), has known about it for years. The only reason the Liberals are kept in power is thanks to the apathy in the East (sans Bloc Quebecois, of course) -they have been satisfied with the Liberals for so long that that is all they are used to. There seems to be a general fear of shaking the boat a bit with a new government. |

Is it pizza parlors in Vancouver? Thanks for the tip. IF you're ever in Toronto you need to watch the dollar stores.
Come on now, corruption in government isn't limited to the Liberal Party. Do you recall the Airbus fiasco? Mulronie, personally, made millions off that.
Also, apathy in the east (I presume you mean east of Manatoba) is not the reason that most votes here go to the Liberals. As much as the Conservative party caters to the interests of the West the Liberals cater to the East. Look at the Liberal social policies. The Liberal party appeals to the urban middle class, the university educated, and immigrants. These three groups equal about 60% of Ontario's population. This results in Liberals grabbing most of the seats in Ontario. It isn't because Ontarians are apathetic, it's because the Liberals really do best represent their interests (corruption aside). As for the Atlantic provinces, I'm not sure. I think it is a safe bet, however, that many of the former PC voters in the Atlantic provinces did not support the Conservatives in the last election because they fear that their interests will take a back seat to the West's, moreover, the Atlantic provinces' interests are often at odds with the West.
FYI, I'm not a fan of any of the federal parties. I will likely vote Liberal in the next election as a Liberal government is more suited toward my ideological position then is a Conservative. That being said I would like to see the Conservatives take a shot at governing. Regardless of who makes up the government for the next period I would like to see another minority as it creates greater accountability. |

Wow... Hillarious thread, no really.
There is a place called Haiti, where people paddle down rivers of chocolate in graham cracker boats, and kids run and play in fields of marshmellows with gumdrop smiles. What a in joke, Canada the most corrupt country in the west, easy off the panic button.
