It's the other way around buddy...
tranceport is excellent.
magik 6 is pretty weak.
I'm not gonna say it's terrible, but I don't like it. Too many cheesy synth tracks (especially tracks 3 and 10; just brutally cheesy). Gotta mix it up with something a little funky or different in between. I mean they're mostly great tracks, but the way it's all mixed together is not that great. Doesn't really make for the best journey, in my opinion. No real flow... It's just killer track after killer track. Never been the biggest fan of Tiesto tho.
Can't really compare the two tho, cuz tranceport was mixed in studio and magik 6 was mixed live. I mean if you disregard that fact, then tranceport is FAR superior just because of the mixing alone. I mean the mixing on magik 6 isn't the greatest compared to most studio mixes, but that's obviously understandable since it was mixed live. Can't expect it to be perfect. Whereas tranceport IS almost perfect (mixing and flow wise I mean) |

Excuse me, are you saying that "Yahel - Voyage" is cheese?
Absolutely not!!! Voyage is one hell of a masterpiece and Yahel is a king producer, the track is original, deep and complex and the last thing i would consider this track is cheese. |

Even though I really like Magik 6 I had to go with Tranceport... cause that is the CD that really got me into trance. Paul Oakenfold has TOTALLY changed his style since that CD was made though, and that's a shame :(

Anyone who calls Tranceport terrible or who picked Magik 6 over it is just not listening. Granted, Magik 6 is a great great album(I listen to it at least once a week) but c'mon now, it's not Tranceport. Every trance afficianado that I've talked to has told me that 1997 was trance's biggest year and the biggest and best album to hit that year besides ESCM was Tranceport. How can u argue against 3 drives, tilt vs PvD, gamemaster with that hypnotic bass line, or any of the tracks on there? The songs are in perfect order and the mixing is flawless.
Sit down and listen to Magik 6 and just for fun, see if you can spot the mixes. No disrespect to Tiesto but I can hear almost every one. Try it with Tranceport and I guarantee you'll miss at least half by a few seconds. Isn't that what DJ'ing is all about? turning all these different songs into one? There is only one other artist in the world that I know of that mixes with the same perfection as Oakie and that is LTJ Bukem. For those who don't know, LTJ Bukem is the #23(MJ) of DJ'ing.
All of you ned to put your sore feelings about Oakie aside and look at this album for what it is. THE GREATEST TRANCE ALBUM EVER MADE.
My top 5: (not necessarily all trance)
1. BT - ESCM(1997)
2. Oakie - Tranceport(1997)
3. Electric Daisy Carnival 2000 - DJ Doran (Soooo underrated)
4. Hybrid - Wider Angle
5. BT - Movement In Still Life (All except US version!)H
Honorable mention:
DJ Tiesto - Magik 6, In Search Of Sunrise
PvD - Out There And Back, Politics Of Dancing
Oakie - Live in Oslo CD1(1997)
W.O.W. - Intensify
Chicane - Behind The Sun
Dave Ralph - Tranceport 2 CD2
Sandra Collins - Tranceport 3
1997 was, is, and always will be the year that trance took over. |

right on! ok, i just downloaded tranceport, and, after listening to many livesets, and trance cds, i have to say it was one of the worst compilations i've ever heard!
wtf, it's like complete cheese mixed with absolute anthems and has no mood flow! and i have to say, the mixing of ascension's someone with the next track is terrible! now, gu007 or another world, that was a much better work by oakey! even better than magik 6! |

Both of these CD's are excellent pieces of work, I listen to them regularly.
In terms of mixing quality, though, I have to admit that Oakey's mixing on Tranceport is truly astounding. When I listened to it the first time it took a while to spot when exactly the mixing would start. Even now, the mixing is such that it tends not to disrupt the flow of the music at all - it's that good.
Despite that fact, I voted for Magik Six anyway; it holds a special place in my heart. What can I say? I guess you can call it the "Tiesto factor." ;)
While we're at it: out of the Magik series, I would vote Magik One to be my second favourite next to Six, believe it or not. It's a very fulfilling CD! |
