I recently got a JP 8080 and i am having a bit trouble figuring out how exactly I can get it to work in FL so I can record the synth into a pattern. I have an M-Audio Firewire Audiophile soundcard which has
one rca audio in and im running the latest version of FL studio 5
any help would be great
thanks |

| consult the help file by pressing f1 in fl and then goto hardware topics it gives in depth details about how to do it and it has preset midi information for the jp8080 which is a major plus. id post how to do it but ive posted about 20times on how to make hardware work with fruity loops. |

you need more than 1 analog in on your soundcard otherwise you have to record in mono.
first off a little info. you cant render audio from a hardware synth like you can from a softsynth. you have to playback your jp through the MIDI OUT plugin in fruity.
this is what you do.
connect the midi out on your soundcard to the midi in on the jp. if you want to use the jp at some point as a controller for your softsynths, go ahead and connect the midi out on the jp to the midi in on your soundcard. (to get this working you will need to use midi yoke/midi ox)
ok back on track. once you have midi hooked up. its time to hook up the audio outs. there should be some audio outs on the back of the jp which are 1/4 inch TRS jacks. these are like the really big headphone jacks. you need 2 cables that are 1/4 inch TRS to RCA. now i though the audiophile has 2 analog ins. this makes sense because then you can receive a stereo signal from an instrument. if you have only the 1 then you have to record mono. assuming its stereo you connect both audio outs on the jp to the audio inputs on your soundcard.
in fruity go to the options and MIDI settings tab. there should be a list of drivers like microsoft midi mapper etc. there should be one for your audiophile. select that and give it a unique midi port number. it doesnt matter what it is as long as nothing else shares it (bear in mind some older synths dont recognise ports above like 16 or so). lets say you assign it to midi port 1. make sure no other driver is taking that port.
now switch on your jp. and turn the master volume low. open the MIDI out plugin in fruity and set the midi port to 1. pressing notes on the piano roll in fruity will now playback sound from the jp. note also the channel number. the jp 8080 is 2 parts multi timbral. therefore when you use the jp's multimode channel 1 will play the first part on the jp. channel 2 will play the audio from the 2nd part on the jp.
hold on. we arent finished yet. you can only playback doing this.
in order to record audio from the jp you need to route the signal through fruity's mixer.
you do this by opening the mixer window. right at the bottom there is an IN and OUT. for example, assign the MIDI OUT plugin to FX1. the IN button should say '(none)'. click it and select the analog in on your soundcard. it should read something like: 'analog in 1 audiophile [1] analog in 2 audiophile [1]'
ok. the mixer is now receiving a signal from the jp and you should see the meters become active when you play some notes. you may notice now that it sounds like its chorusing too. like its playing twice. thats because it is. it is playing back through the audiophile mixer in your system tray and through fruity's mixer. for this reason, mute the audiophile mixer when recording via the mixer in fruity. dont forget to unmute it afterwards because you wont be able to hear anything in windows or any sound not from your jp for that matter.
note: the audio from the jp is delayed by however much your soundcard latency is. when you record or monitor make sure your latency is as LOW as possible. for this reason try using your ASIO drivers and keep it at less than 6 ms.
ok. onto recording. to record, arm the mixer by clicking the REC (disk icon) button in the bottom right hand corner of the mixer. save the wav file wherever you want. now. press record in the main fruity window and press play. a metronome will count you in and you are now recording live. you can either sequence the notes beforehand or play it live. when its finished press stop. you now have a recorded wav of the jp in action. after this you can put VST effects and post processing on it. |
