| quote: | Internazionale have been ordered by Uefa to play their next six European club games behind closed doors after the crowd trouble during their abandoned UEFA Champions League quarter final tie with Milan.
Referee Markus Merk decided to abandon Tuesday's game after Inter fans bombarded the pitch with missiles after 73 minutes when the home side had a goal disallowed.
Things turned ugly in the aftermath of the disallowed goal when Inter fans rained down flares and missiles onto the pitch and Milan goalkeeper Dida was struck by one thrown from the stands.
Merk tried to get play underway again after a 27 minute delay, but as soon as the game resumed Inter fans resumed throwing more missiles onto the pitch and the German referee had no choice but to call off the match.
Milan, who had been winning the game 1-0 at the time thanks to Andrei Shevchenko's first half goal, have been awarded the victory 5-0 on aggregate.
Inter have also been fined £132,000 as a result of the crowd trouble.
The last two games of the six games due to be played behind closed doors are suspended for three years. |
as usual they have 1 rule for anyone who's not british. Had it been english clubs they'd have been banned, fined lots more & Loads more, bloody typical uefa double standards |

I'd have to say a years ban from the comp would have been acceptable. The fact they are nearly certain to qualify for the champs league I think would have hit them hard.
The fine is a joke. The revenue gained from the section in which the trouble was happening will probably cover that x 5. |

Does this include qualifying games for the Champions League as well? Does 3rd place in Italy have to qualify, like in England?
Anyway, even if it does, it basically means that the team will have to play all its Champions League games next season under closed doors = loss of significant revenue, and because of it, maybe they wont qualify past the first round?
A years ban would be harsh as a first punishment. If it happens again then theyll have to be more severe. |

Completely agree Ian
If anyone can actually remember back to last summer before Euro 2004 actually got going. Was it England who were told that if any "FANS" misbehaved inside or outside the stadium we would be thrown out the competition?
Now imagine a fan threw a flair, on the pitch at the Portugese goalkeeper, or the ref, after Sol Campbells goal had been disallowed. Similar circumstances right? Well i guarentee we'd be punished far more severly!!
Italy has a long history of violence in their grounds. Players after the match says it is actuall a social problem, so does that mean that all Italian fans are thugs, or all Italians are?
I dont believe that, i just think the policing in Italy is disgraceful and how flares are still legal in grounds is beyond me.
Rant over lol |

| end of the day, english hooligans set the standard for the rest of the european countries, and have the worst reputation. this is probably why they are treated more harshly. furthermore, the security situation is totally different in england than it is in italy. in england the clubs are responsible for the security of their own ground, and so the consequences on the club for misbehaviour are more harsh than on clubs in italy where it is actually illegal for the clubs themselves to even search fans at the gate, as the stadiums are publicly owned. even if inter wanted to implement major security at the ground, they cant, and so banning them for a year isnt going change anything. italy needs law reforms to deal with these problems. |
