| if you have the money get a powerbook, if you're looking for a windows PC i'd say get a Dell cause they have nice coupon deals... i have the 700m with, 80gig, 8x dvd+-rw, extended 8cell batt, and 512ddr ram for just around 1100$... |

Does Mac offer good customer support like Dell?
Also, how good are Mac's as far as gaming goes? |

gaming is extremely limited... Due that there arent many games ported to mac.. I run World of warcraft on my mac fine, then again its a dual 2.5ghz with 2gb of ram.... If your purpose for getting a comp is gaming forget macs. If its for everything else get a mac... |

Hey,
Make sure you check out www.bensbargains.net <--they usually have good deals on that site. Also make sure you dont get an IBM or Compaq, from what I hear, they are really bad in terms of stability. I am a sucker for Toshiba's and use the M35-S456, Excellent laptop, can be had for $1300 from ebay. Check, Check it out!

ehh, stability would be software and stuff which is microsofts fault, except for drivers which ibm has come pretty far on
Alienware > IBM > Sony > Dell > any other pos
i wouldn't buy anything other then those two links, anything else you're wasting money on, thats my opinion though.

building your own PC isnt much cheaper than buying one made with a warranty etc... I know because ive done it aswell.. Id rather buy a pc with a warranty then build one and have something fail and have to troubleshoot it.. |

i don't know about that - warranty's are bull and either way you will be trouble shooting before they grant a replacement. that's why they outsource to india for tech support so you trouble shoot before they replace it. and thats for average parts for an average computer. |

p4's suck
prescott runs at 100W TDP and does less work then a norwood p4. its just blah.
A64's are where its at right now. but thats gonna change as soon as dual cores come out.
anyways you can't build a laptop that easily, but i would agree generally its better to buy parts for the comp online and build it. this takes some time but will save you alot of dough.
i'm gonna save up and build a quad opteron for my next comp =) |
