I think even if we were to have some major reforms, dl would still be as strong as ever.
Also, there is a lot of very limited speak of how the industry is hurt by illicit dls. The biggest hits have been taken by recording/publishing companies catering to the mainstream hip-hop and pop culture. They reach a FAR broader audience, and thus when a segment of that audience leaves, it is noticeable. At the same time, combine this with more and more artists hitting 'the big time' by releasing more and more inferior products, well is it a wonder that sales are dropping? The online dl community has received a lot more flak for it, simply because it's by far the easiest antagonist to target. |

I will admit, I download music. I don't think it's necessarily wrong though. Pretty much everything I download are DJ sets, which are mostly not available on CD. Sure, I can buy Tiesto's Magik series, or other live sets...and I do have a couple. But the majority of the sets I have are unavailable on CD.
I do buy CDs from time to time as well. I just don't like buying them if I only like one or two songs. Especially if I'm paying over 20 bucks for it. I like to support my bands and DJs though, and I like having actual CDs with the little books and stuff. I guess I'm on the fence about this issue. |

The people who complain about filesharing are the ty artists who aren't making their money. Most of the people I know still buy albums, myself included, but they also have loads of MP3s. If I find one song I want by an artist and everything else sucks ass by them you had better believe I'm not going out to buy their album.
If an artist really has talent then people will still buy their albums and even more importantly, their murchandise and ticket prices to see them live. |

But how much is the label willing to invest in an artists production of an album if they are skeptical of their ability to sell. This is especially important in underground genre'a like EDM. Most labels will only continue to produce the hip-pop garbage we see advertised heavily and on MTV.

EXACTLY. It's just stupid corporate propaganda. They'll put in half a cd, at least, worth of filler, then make you pay for it all. Even with legal downloads, barely ANY of that money actually goes to the artist, so purchasing CD's, most of your hard-earned cash goes to supporting those making a killing and not giving a s*** about you OR the artist. |
