| DJ Celica, can I just say that I love your pics the most? Do you still have that zip file of D2? I downloaded it but have lost it! |

| That was real honest of you Chinaman to come out and admit that you caught the jersey. You probably could have easily just kept it for yourself. It really goes to show what a great community of people we have here, and I'm glad to be part of it. |

Hey Everyone,
Yesterday I met up with the Ear and Steve, the latter being the one the shirt belonged to. The meetup went very well, with absolutely no hard feelings on either end. Now that I've explained the story to them, I'll officially release it here to fulfill everyone's interest & curiosity ;)
This is what happened on that fateful night:
I was standing on the Guv stage because there were way too many people on the floor pushing and shoving. Now, as we all know, from the stage, you can see the DJ in the booth. So, whenever the music would die down enough, I'd yell, "FERRRRYYYYYYY!!!"
The first time I did this, Ferry looked over at me and then the rest of the stage and waved at us... So, I did this a few more times during the course of the next hour of so and the third time I yelled out his name, he appeared on the side of the DJ booth facing the stage. He also had something in his hand. Ferry then proceeded to throw the object in what I presumed was in my direction. Standing beside me was Steve, the owner of the shirt that he had managed to get up into the booth and subsequently got Ferry to sign it.
So, we both saw this coming towards us and instictively grabbed it. It should be noted, at this point, I fully assumed Ferry had tossed out a souvenir at me since I had been very "vocal" in the crowd. So, Steve and I caught it and then the following conversation ensued:
Perrin (Chinaman): "Dude, let go of it, I caught it!"
Steve: "No man, it's mine."
P: "No way, I just saw Ferry toss it at me."
S: "No, he's giving it to me."
P: "Dude, you don't understand!"
S: "No, I gave it to a friend to get it signed by Ferry. It's really mine!"
etc.
So, this went back and forth for about two minutes where neither of us wanted to give it back. Steve then said to me, "My parents got it for me in Holland and I brought it today to get it autographed." Of course, I didn't believe a word he said and it sounded to me that it was so made up. Also, when we were fighting for it, I got the impression that he wanted it because it was a souvenir, not that it was actually his.
Then I proposed the deal - :haha:
P: "Alright, let's settle this. Rock, Paper, Scissors! Best 2 out of 3" :D
S: "No! It's totally mine, my parents got it for me! My friend gave it to Ferry to get it signed!"
Then somehow, we kind of came to a mutual agreement that we would both hold the jersey up and not really fight over it, which we did do. I'd say for the next hour we were holding it up on the stage. During this time, the conversation got a lot more friendly. We asked each other about different parties that we've been to at the Guv etc. But when Steve asked me, "How many people are you with tonight?" I responed, "About 50 or so."
Now, that last comment referred to the number of TAs in attendance (Steve isn't a TA, his friend, the Ear is however). But it turns out when I returned the jersey on Wednesday, he interpreted my answer of 50 people as a kind of threat - as in I have extensive backup with me. In reality, I didn't see any TAs in the immediate vicinity of me and I was on my own at that time.
I interpreted this friendly-talk as his signal of kind of giving up on trying to get the jersey from me and that he was making everything up. I felt if it were truly his, he would really be adamant and fight for it, because I know I would be relentless. But this didn't really happen at all.
There were even times when Steve was on his phone and I offered to hold the jersey until he was done. We did this twice and I handed the other sleeve back to Steve when he was done on the phone. Now, what was going through my mind at the time was the following:
- This guy is a lot bigger than me, not really proving his story with any conviction,
- he hadn't brought in his friend who got the shirt to Ferry to confirm the story,
- was using his phone to call in backup to kick my ass
It should be noted, he did not in any way threaten me with violence nor did I do the same. :D
So, the moment of truth was about to arrive. Steve was taking a very long time writing a text on his phone and I held the jersey at this time. I did a quick scan of my escape route - dash through the Guv from the stage, through the Orange Room corridor, through the Orange Room, into the Kool Haus and OUT :nervous:
I slowly inched back and put the jersey on. When Steve's guard was down, I took off! I felt someone try to grab my arm and it was Steve but he was unsuccessful. I executed my escape with such speed and precision that even I was astounded. I left through the Kool Haus and into the nearest cab. I felt if I stayed longer at the Guv, I'd get my ass kicked by Steve and his friends over the jersey which I felt was rightfully mine since Ferry "gave" it to me, right?.
However, talking to Steve on Wednesday, apparently someone pulled a knife on him onstage as he tried to go after me. I have absolutely no idea who that was and certainly not someone I was with. Fortunately, nothing bad happened.
This is my version of events and I'm sure the Ear can verify all of this. It can be labelled as a "misunderstanding" however not an "innocent" misunderstanding. I am definitely at fault here for walking off with someone else's property however I was unaware (or refused to believe) that it belonged to anyone in particular.
Otherwise, had I actually known it was Steve's, why would I post the picutres on Ferry's website the day after? That's like putting my own head in a noose. I was still under the premonition that it was given to me by Ferry because I kept yelling his name and all? :toothless I figured Steve wanted to shirt as bad as I did because it was a souvenir - a Netherlands football jersey autographed by Ferry.

We did take a video of me meeting with Steve, the Ear, Sly_Guy during the handover and once I obtain that, I'll host it to show as evidence that this story does have a happy ending.
Once again, I'd like to thank Steve and the Ear for being so understanding about this. Revenge and vendettas are usually the easiest option to execute in these situations though the consequences are usually far-reaching and negative.
Also, to those in this thread and in others that didn't jump to conclusions and immediately point me out as GUILTY, but to be fair, I was guilty in some way, thank you too for your patience.
I hope this clears the air and puts an end to this seemingly disastrous loss that has resulted in a new friendship. :)

Have you read the post above yours? I don't think a vendetta will be necessary. I'm sure he feels bad enough already, there's no need to rub it in now. |
I didn't mean "go after" as in kick the crap out of him:rolleyes: ..I meant go after the guy & get the shirt... |

All I can say here is the classic All's well that ends well.
Sent pics along to Chinaman, vid didn't pass along too well in the transfer to me, I'm guessing it's just a codec seeing as the videographer decided avi would be the best format. But we'll get that sorted & have it up. I gotta say, when I met up w/ Chinaman & he started tellin me the sequence of events & then watchin him & Steve speaking where it's actually possible to hear everything everyone's sayin (unlike at Guvvy lol) I laughed my ass off for a good couple minutes. All in all though everything worked out marvellously there shall be some damn good times ahead to come out of this lol.
Thanks again Chinaman for being completely cool about the whole thing & returning the jersey. I hadn't even seen it w/ the autograph until then... looks absolutely sick!
Right-o, that's all that I hafta say about that (a la Forrest Gump)
Cheers to all! |
