Finding A Job

Anyone at a job that they actually find interesting? I was looking for something to pay the bills / school, but finding a job now is a bitch.

Local jobs in my area start off around $6.00 an hour which isn't at all. That's ok if your in high school or something but not when you have all these bills to pay. I couldn't see myself working long hours for about $6 an hour when I know there are other places w/ probably less or more work starting at $8.

Anyway. Anyone have any experience w/ job agencies? Like Monster.com & etc. I was thinking about posting out to resume's that I find in the paper. Or do both.

during the school year i work at starbucks, get 8.50/hour plus tips (extra dollar/hour at least usually)
during the summer, work as a lifeguard, probably be getting somewhere around 10 bucks/hour this summer
absolutely love both jobs
i really lucked out actually
the few of my friends who have jobs have worked in construction, pumping gas, at a deli, waitressing, and at staples
and i have two jobs that are doper than any of those :p
free swimming and coffee = teh win

That sounds wicked man. I wanted to be a lifeguard but eh. Did you get raises or did you start off at $8 / $10.

I actually wouldn't mind doing something like tiling, painting, etc. Something hands on. At my last job I was a manager doing something similar to what you do, but I don't know. I wouldn't mind doing something different. Just need to find where :wtf:.

screw what all these cats said:

get a job waiting tables in an upper scale /fine dining restaurant. You'll make $2.13 + tips. You won't ever be there for over 8 hours and still make more money than any of these jobs suggested.

Pros: food + wine knowledge. you'll obtain excellent people skills. you work in a boisterous atmosphere that becomes a bit contagious. It's almost like a stage. Dim lights, food, wine, laughter, music.. etc.. At certain moments it just seems so blissful. quick cash. short hours. free training.Employee bonds.

Cons: THE STRESS. nagging guests. worry of being tipped the infamous "bitter waiter" for the rest of your life. ty tips by some who don't understand you tip 20% and still tip 20% on the original amount of discounted meal. server nightmares (those who work in the industry know what i mean!) sad, sorry feet at the end of the night.

I've worked in fine dining for almost three years now. There are nights when I've almost come to scream " YOU ALL" and walk out the door. But, i've heard alot say, once your in the restuarant biz, you always come back. its true. I think alot underestimate the skill of being a server as well as the pay. At my last place of employment, I worked in an Argentinean fining dining restaurant. It wasn't uncommon for servers to walk out with $350 on a Saturday night. I'm not joking. I'm only a college student. It's gotten me through school and them some. Let this job put you through school.. become educated

and then get the FECK OUT !!!!

or open your own restaurant ;)

@Laux de par:

Are you a guy or a girl?

I know alot of guys (myself included) don't like the idea of being a waiter ... something about it is kind of effeminine. But I guess it'd be better than what I'm planning on doing (dropping out after this semester, to work min. wage while I figure things out).

Man work at an upscale valet. I work at one of the busiest hot spots here in Southern California and I make BANK! $8.00/hour + tips and I work 4 days a week, 3 during the week and 1 on the weekend. On weekdays, I pull atleast $80 in tips that go straight into my pocket, no claiming, no filing, no nothing. On the weekend night that I work, I work from 5pm-midnight and I make no less than $170 that again goes straight into my pocket. If you add up how much I make base + tips, it averages out to atleast $18/hour on the weekdays and $28+/hour on the weekend. I'm telling you it's pure money man. I'm a sophomore in college and I will tell you that I will most definately have this job throughout the remainder of college. I always have money for my car, for my bills, for my booze, for my drugs, for my dinner, for my girl...the list goes on and on. IT'S A MONEY JOB!!

Yeh but how do you land a job like that?

I always seem to luck out and never get anything good, maybe because I've bounced from job to job (never been fired, just moved multiple times / had to work somewhere else, etc.).
