For my senior project, I'm going to be making a PowerPoint with an overview of electronic music. Now, before you guys start criticizing me because it won't work or because it isn't interesting, I just want to let you know that there are people in my class who do listen to some forms of electronic music. This is simply going to be educational. Anyway, what I'm planning is the following:
-A few slides with the history of electronic music
-One slide per each major genre (trance, techno, house, etc.) that describes it
-Including song samples on each of those slides to give an example of how the music sounds
That being said, what are some websites that have good overviews of how electronic music evolved, and what are some sites that describe the different genres? By describing the genres, I don't just mean how it sounds, but also the structure of tunes from each genre. Also, if you guys would post some recommendations of tunes from each of the major genres that you would say are representative of those genres, that'd be cool too. Thanks in advance!

| Wikipedia should get you started on the basics, may also have some links. |

| Wow, I was doubting Wikipedia, but I search for techno and got such an informative overview of the history, structure and everything. Thanks for mentioning it! Now then, what other sites do you guys think would help me and what are some tune recommendations that you'd say represent these styles of electronic music (I'll be playing those songs during the slides of the presentation displaying info on the genre). |

use Ishkur's guide for an idea. DO NOT use his content, though. it's majorly unnacurate/a piss-take. but the genres are very thoroughly outlined..you can show each major genre first, and then its subgenres briefly in a slide. refer to Ishkur's guide for inspiration.
also, make sure you include Hip Hop, as it is EDM and a more commercialised one, probably a more widely accepted genre in your class, even. |

Good point, so these are the genres I'm covering so far:
Trance
Techno
House
Breakbeats
Drum N' Bass/Jungle
Electronic/Big Beat
Hip Hop
Anything I'm missing? I realize hardcore/hardstyle aren't on there, but I just think that'll give the class a headache :P |
