Sounds like a hardware problem...
If the processor or something on the motherboard overheats, then the machine will shut off.
This would also explain why you have to wait a period of time before you can turn it back on... |

| It's the power supply. |

It might also be the power supply. Get it checked out. A homefix cannot tell you for sure.

Whut do power supplies go for. $$$?
Bc if i go home and see that BOTH fans are working fine, then i can rule out the failsafe of my comp shutting down from overhearting.
If cheap, ill just buy a new power supply and put it in, real easy.
No sense in masting money on labour for that.
If s still faacked after that, then it needs a trip to the shop, je crois!

Standard ATX should be around 50 bucks, no more. |

Even if the fans are working, here are some things you can do to keep the system somewhat cooler:
1) clean the dust out of the inside of the case and off the fans every so often (including power supply fans). dust build-up will cause extra heat, especially if it gets in-between the heatsink fins
2) place the cables so that they don't restrict airflow
3) keep the case itself in a place where it gets enough cool airflow (I had problems when my case was inside the desk, even with the door open) |
