probably because you've never known anything else. People laugh at our flag you know. People absolutely hated it in the 60s and many still hate it today.

Those people can go themselves. Our country is the best :)

And whats with people here emphasizing thier love of canada yet justifying the use of british royalty on our money. Sounds hypocritical to me

Because Canada is a Constitutional Monarchy, a Dominion of the British Commonwealth of Nations. Our political tradition is rooted in the British parliamentary traditions. Their laws are our laws, their traditions are our traditions. It's quite obvious.

Let's not start this again.

what's wrong with being a royalist, considering how integral it was in Canada's foundation?

i think what Cyrus King is trying to say is that he finds it hypocritical that some people feel that one should not display another country's flag over a Canadian flag if they were born here simply because they want to express their 'roots', yet we display a British royal on our Canadian currency because of our 'roots' ..

i dunno maybe i'm wrong, but that's my interpretation of what he's saying

The way I see it, I was Korean before I was Canadian.

I was Korean when I was a fetus, but I wasn't Canadian until I was born on Canadian soil.

Besides, what is wrong with wanting to proudly display your roots?

Edit: That doesn't go on to mean that I'm not a proud Canadian...

100% right;) :happy2:

I guess I'll change mine to the ol' family roots then.

{edit} Changed

Sadly, a non-caucasian person born in Canada is still considered part of the minority population in the eyes of the public. This probably causes them to be attached to the customs of their parents rather than consider themselves Canadian first.

What exactly does it really mean to be Canadian though other than to be a citizen of this country?
