Hypothetical question regarding recording
View this Thread in Original format

I have a second PC in my basement at the complete other end from my DJ setup (at least 30 ft away). Would it be possible for me to connect my mixer to my PC so I can record directly onto it? What type of cable would I need and do they have wires that go past 50 ft just in case (cuz of corners and stuff)? Also, what programs and/or steps would I need to take to record my mix then?

you can just get a really long rca to rca cable

then at the pc, get a rca to 1/8th inch converter.

Then put it into the Line In, and use an audio recorder for example: audacity

Have a link for the RCA to 1/8th inch converter? How does that connect to the PC? Sorry about what may seem like pretty basic questions, but I'm just not that tech savvy yet :P

that cable is the one that looks like the regular headphone plug and then the other end is the red and white plugs ;)

ok, make saure you get a very high gauge wire, any wire at that length is gonna up your sound and make sure your wire wont be stopped on and ed up, or the quality will slowly deteriorate.

i have my cpu connected to my mixer, and it works great.

all you need is a good recrding suite, i reccomend soundforge.

So then is this thing the convertor or the entire cable itself?: http://www.monstercable.com/thx/pro...20Interconnects Where does it plug into my PC?

What cables w/ high gauge wires do you recommend? Have any links?

it connects to your line in, not the microphone input, the line in. it looks just like the speaker output.

if you dont have a line in, you may need a new soundcard. id suggest m-audio, the audiophile series will suit you.

the monster cable should suit u fine in terms of quality.

No no no. I would look for a different solution as the quality of an RCA cable is really going to decline after about 20 feet.

here's another question along these lines..

i'm recording in soundforge and the recordings get choppy. i think my laptop's specs are straight - 256meg ram, 1.7ghz processor. anyone with advice?
i got big pants
^same here. Decent laptop, enough space on my hard drive. every so often, there will be a gap in my recording. might possibily be due to the fact that ive download so much porn that theres spyware up the wazoo on my comp...lol

you all need to make sure ur laptop is super clean, in terms of processes. sound forge should be the only thing open. cept for the system stuff, antivirus, etc.

also, check out a good external sound card. M audio and Creative offer some good ones. built in laptop sound cards cant be trusted.

Well, if that guy says RCA cables' quality decreases after 20 ft., what should I use then?
