while backspinning the record .... needles jumps.... ???

I'm just backspinning back to a point I want it at, not making it spin fast... needles jumps.... ?????

Adjust the counterweight to put more pressure down on the stylus.

i still don't exactly know how to backspin properly... anyone got pointers?

do you backspin the platter, or just the vinyl?
do you stop the deck first or keep it playing?
do you forcefully throw it back or just kinda pull it back a little?

i know, some dumb-ass questions but i've never felt the need to throw out the backspin.

Omega_Blue,
who do you think you are calling me a dumb-ass :whip:

:toothless

same situation: never done it, maybe would if I knew how to.

you basically just pull abruptly on the vinyl. you SHOULD be able to do it with the motor still running, no problem. however, i find myself hitting the stop button just as i push on the vinyl, as to not have to use to much force on the pull.

if the tonearm has a decent amount of weight, and you pull the vinyl in a natural direction, it shouldn't skip.

thanks for the info, but i am more talking about just rewinding the record when your looking for a cue point, or just to turn the record back to an earlier point... sometimes, my needle will jump... and i have the tonearm weight as high as possible.... any suggestions or info anyone ??? :)

Set the antiskating at ZERO. It solved my problem.
And use a good slipmat.

You could be putting too much pressure on the Turntable.

Your fingers are supposed to touch the vinyl, not push down
on it.

set your anitskate to 0 and leave it there
even with it set to the right setting it doesn't make a noticable difference

it will save you from needle jump during backcueing as well as when backspinning

then you only need to have your weight set to the recommended setting
Omega_Blue
thanks for teh clarification

either you need better needle, or it is the record. I have a few records that are very sensitive and I have to carefully wind it back.

so if it is happening to pretty much all your records, even new ones, try new/better needles.

dont worry mate, we learn something everyday!:gsmile:

both 3 options are no no's.
although you do need to apply force backwards, but to answer your question you need to try it yourself.
