Quit being such a jackass. The stupid bitch was just trying to do her job. She probably isnt good at judging ages.
If you've ever had a job (have you ever had a job?) You'll know that come authority figures will be wads just for the hell of it. She was probably new, and is used to having some manager guy busting her balls. Man, my friend works in a liquor store, and I once saw his boss tell him "you should have checked that ladys ID" And the woman had ing GREY hair. |
+1 to that. I totally know what it's like to have to ID people for , and it's not like I want to... I legally have to or I can be fined a very hefty amount of cash, and will lose my job. Give the person a break. |

So last night at 2:00 in the morning, me and my friend are high and decide to go to Wal-Mart to buy a movie. We end up seeing Fight Club in a bin on sale for like $5.00, everywhere else it's like $12.00 and up!!, so we get it and bring it up to the register to pay for it.
The girl scans it and looks at me like somethings wrong. I'm like what? Not working? Should I get another one? She's like, "no, it's something else". And she starts asking the other people waiting to pay for items in the line how old they think we are. It so happendes that in order to buy a rated R movie the register asks "Is this person 17?". I'm like wtf. Everybody in line is telling her that we look at least 23 / 24". So I'm like, "can I pay for my movie now and leave please? I'm hungry"
Then she's sais, "do you have I.D.?" You gotta be kidding me. We didn't have our I.D.'s (they were all the way in the car, don't ask why). It's 2:00 in the morning, I have like a day of non shaved stubble growing, and she's asking me for I.D... Right. I'm like come on, it's obvious we're over 17. Even if I wasn't, It's a movie for s sake. It's not like I'm buying cigarets where they can kill you or something.
Long story short, she's ends up saying "sorry I can't sell it to you". Other people in the line saw how big of a deal she was making, and they offered to buy it for us (since they had I.D.) instead. She was like "it'll have to be another register, I can get in trouble." It so happendes that at 2:00 in the morning she was the only register open. I'm like, "so your not going to let me pay for it"? It's obvious she's not, so we say it and leave shaking our heads in disgust on the way out.
When we get in the car I see my I.D., I debate wether I should go back in or not. I'm like it, let me go show her how stupid she was being. So I go back, and she's like, "I can't sell it to you without I.D. --", I cut her off and slam the I.D. down and say "how old do you on see there". She kinda "o.k. I'm sorry", like if she was embarrased or something. She rings my stuff up, sais thank you. I give her a nasty look and leave.
Blah. She was probably just trying to maybe not get in trouble, but she made a big deal out of nothing.
When your high you don't want to deal with that I guess. Yea so, gay night. Anyone have similar experiences?

| To be fair I work a job in which I sell a lot of alcohol and tobacco products, and I think she was being really silly about the situation. I know there's a fine for selling alcohol or cigarettes to minors, but is there a fine for selling an R rated movie to a minor? Even so, the only time cashiers get in trouble for that is when the cops send in someone as a test, and it's virtually always someone who definitely looks too young to be buying, and they don't do it at 2 AM in the morning. |

In big chains especially Walmarts all age restricted items get flagged by the cash register whenever such item is scanned. It asks the cashier " Is person 18 or not ? " and they have to press something on the keypad.
So hummm I guess there is some tracking or something. But when it's your job and you could easily get busted for even something lame it's better not to take a chance as a worker.
I got ID'd buying paintballs at Walmart a couple times one time didn't have the ID and lady let me buy it. But with movies never got ID'd there. |

hehe, i was on my way out to a party a year ago back, it was either jxl or tiesto in town and they put him up in this convention centre, and we stopped at a grcoery store before the event to buy a couple redbulls, cigarretes, mints, basically supplies for the night and thse kids, maybe a year or 2 younger than me, i was 15 at the time, were rejected from buying booze at the store (in peru, its really easy to buy booze) and they got me to buy them a couple bottles of wine. it was ing weird. a 15 year old kid buying drink for even younger ones.
i havent really gone clubbing in a place where age is a huge deal, but i have gone to clubs where age is a huge deal and ive never been carded. even in canada, no one would card me when i bought cigarretes. |

yeah, I never get carded either.
try growing a beard, but not one of those fake teenager looking ones.
I remember getting those 21+ stamps without being carded while going to parties when I was 18, I really shoulda taken advantage of all of those.
not that any of this matters anymore for me though, I turned 21 this past february.
But carding for movies is kinda BS I think, same thing for those silly 'explicit lyrics' cd's. I mean, we cant blame the kids working the registers, but sheltering kids from boobies and profanity isnt protecting anybody from anything, just keeping them ignorant until they reach a certain age. I dont think the practice is healthy.
Besides, kids can rent porno when they are 17, why be 18 for fight club? Why not restrict dirty books as well? One could easily argue that the they make us read in school, like the color purple, or all the stuff on the holocaust is worse than anything we could get in a movie or a CD, but they dont make us show ID for that stuff.
Its all backwards hypocritical BS |
