| I'm trying to use remote desktop to connect to my computer at my mom's house but I have a problem. Our network over there is set up so we have local IP addresses (192.168.0.xxx) for all of our computers there with one actual IP that when I connect to takes me to the DHCP or DNS server, err, whatever the hell it's called. My question is how do I remote desktop to my computer that has a local IP address? |

Im not positive this will work, but if your router has software (or you can login to it), look into port fowarding: specifying a specific port to connect to your machine and its software. You will probably also have to set up your server software to connect through a port you specify. You will then be able (hypothetically) to connect to your system from the specified port. Im assuming youre prolific with home networking, but if not, many tutorials are avaliable online and ill also be awake for awhile. |
He's right, you need to enable IP forwarding, and tell the router software the name of the software used for remote desktop.
The IP you will type is not the 192..., that's the local network IP, click here , it will give u the IP you'll use... |
